Orphanage Volunteer with Children in Thailand
Program Overview
We are a nonprofit organization supporting Children’s Village Thailand (Moo Baan Dek), an orphanage providing a safe, loving, and stable home for children, in their earliest years (ages 0–6).
Our nursery, just outside Bangkok, offers a peaceful, community-centered environment while still being close to the city’s culture and energy. Thailand, the “Land of Smiles,” is known for its hospitality, making it a meaningful place to live and volunteer.
Volunteers play an important role in both structured and informal English learning. This includes simple lessons as well as play-based interaction, songs, storytelling, and daily communication. At this age, learning is about familiarity, repetition, and building confidence in English through consistent exposure.
Just as important, regular interaction with international volunteers helps the children become more comfortable with people from different countries and backgrounds.
Our international support team helps guide volunteers and ensure a well-supported experience throughout their stay.
Our mission is to provide a stable environment where children can thrive, while offering meaningful early English exposure and cultural connection.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to all the most common questions about Friends of Children's Village Thailand.
What will my role as a volunteer involve?
Volunteers support children ages 0–6 in a structured orphanage setting, helping create a warm, safe, and nurturing daily environment. This includes supervised play, storytelling, songs, and simple activities, with a focus on gently introducing basic English through natural interaction. The goal is to build comfort, trust, and early confidence in language. Volunteers work closely with experienced Thai staff in a supportive, team-based environment
Do I need prior experience working with children or teaching English?
Yes, prior experience or studies working with children is required, or volunteers should be studying a related field such as early childhood education, education, developmental or child psychology, social work, nursing, or speech and language therapy. A TEFL qualification or equivalent experience in teaching English is also accepted. This ensures volunteers are prepared to support young children in a safe, meaningful, and responsible way.
Can I receive academic or internship credit for this program?
We are able to support internship or academic credit in some cases, depending on your school’s requirements. While we are not formally partnered with specific universities, we can provide documentation and confirmation of participation to help students apply for credit through their institution. Approval ultimately depends on your school or program coordinator.
What type of accommodation is provided for volunteers?
Volunteers stay in a large, modern shared dorm-style room with up to three other same-sex volunteers. The space is comfortable, clean, and social, with air conditioning, WiFi, and a private bathroom featuring multiple stalls and shower facilities. In keeping with Thai tradition, sleeping is on comfortable floor mats, offering a simple, peaceful, and culturally immersive living experience.
What are the program expenses? Can you please explain?
We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 weeks. The program fee is $8 per day, ($56 per week) which helps cover accommodation, meals, and supports the ongoing care of the children and daily operations. For volunteers who are able to stay 3 months or longer, this fee is fully waived, as we deeply value longer-term commitment and the meaningful impact it brings to the children and community.
