In 1965, entrepreneur Bertil Hult took a group of Swedish students to Brighton, England, to learn English while vacationing. After witnessing their rapid improvement in just a week, he was inspired to launch EF Education First, focusing on language learning, cultural immersion, and travel.

In the 1990s, as global economies opened up, EF established English First language centers in Indonesia and China, solidifying its presence in local communities. Today, over 300 centers in both countries offer courses designed to transform lives by nurturing a love of English and helping students achieve success.

As English 1, we are excited for the next chapter, backed by EF and majority stakeholder Permira. With over 30 years of experience, we operate schools and offices across China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, implementing an innovative learning system that blends language acquisition with immersive experiences. Our approach fosters creativity and personal growth while ensuring students gain critical skills.
