Program Overview

Where science, culture, and authentic Laos meet.

Step into the heart of Laos, where elephants roam and conservation is a way of life. The Elephant Conservation Center’s 7-day / 6-night Conservation Volunteering Programme invites you to work alongside conservationists, veterinarians, and biologists in an immersive week of learning and service.

Set on the shores of Nam Tien Lake and surrounded by the Phou Xang mountains, volunteers become part of a living laboratory led by elephants themselves. You’ll gain hands-on experience in habitat restoration, behavioural observation, ethical elephant care, and applied conservation science.

Daily activities include forest treks to collect tree seeds and elephant dung, monitoring social behaviour at the Socialisation Area, maintaining the tree nursery, assisting at the Elephant Hospital, and working in the research lab. Every task directly supports ECC’s pioneering rewilding and welfare programmes.

More than volunteering, this is a transformative experience. Through shared work, and cultural exchange with Lao mahouts, you’ll gain practical skills and a deep understanding of coexistence between people, elephants, and forests.
