Education for the Children (EFTC), founded in 2003, is a registered charity in Guatemala, the UK, and the US. EFTC works in partnership with disadvantaged families, children and young adults in Guatemala to ensure they develop the tools they need to break free from the cycle of poverty. EFTC’s School of Hope in Jocotenango, a town on the outskirts of Antigua, has over 650 children and young adults attending the school. As part of our holistic approach to education, the students and their families receive access to clean water, nutrition, health care, hygiene, and psychological support. We teach English from reception to junior high, and offer full scholarships to our graduating students. How can you help? Program Highlights
The school is located on the outskirts of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage City, renowned for its centuries old architecture and is surrounded by volcanoes.
The Maya civilisation dates back thousands of years and today their descendants make up more than 50 percent of the Guatemalan population.
Your volunteer role and schedule can be tailored based on your interests, skills, and experiences.
Develop your Spanish skills, along with other professional development skills as you work at the school.
Volunteers can choose their accommodation, including living with a trusted host family whose homes you can stay in.
