Fuze Ecoteer Outdoor Adventures

One of the most beautiful islands I've been to. The people were amazing and friendly. The experience was absolutely awesome. Now about the project, it was well maintained. The accommodation was great. It had a tiny forest, a private-ish beach and the thing I miss the most..the deck. Oh the wonderful deck. You usually have to make your breakfast and lunch yourself but the best parts the dinner when everyone eats together like a family(though i skipped that part a lot because im not exactly a family person. I'd just buy beer and juice and drink till im full on the deck). The work is quite fun. Specially the snorkeling and the night petrol are nice. You can sleep on the hammock/the rocks or the really comfy bed. I usually consider myself insomniac and getting more than 4 hours of sleep seems impossible for me. But as magical as it was I slept the whole nights peacefully there and I went to bed early. Which made me doubt if I was labeling myself right. So if you want to cure sleeplessness, look no further. the best part is definitely seeing baby turtles and holding them, the wonderful malay food and the friendly people. I can guarantee everyone would enjoy this. :)

It was a dream come true as I finally got to be an Ecoteer!! It had been on my bucket list for long and finally the stars aligned for this once in a lifetime experience!! I thoroughly enjoyed my entire week.. be it the time with my new friends at the Center, the challenging yet fun exchange with the loving animal keepers and ofcourse the best of all - to be able to interact with the furry and feathered friends at such close quarters.. The arrangements in terms of stay and food was impeccable.. getting to relish many local delicacies.. like tempeh and casavah and so many more.. the names of which i am not able to recollect! This includes visiting the local fruit market to taste the exotic fruits.. the " most famed "Durian", visiting the traditional market and buying stuff like Ketumber, Timbuk and Kacang...with the help of google translate, needless o say .. and also getting to visit the town square with its innumerable mouthwatering street food carts.. And how can i forget the sunset bike rides in the countryside which my friends treated me to as I learnt more about the country and people there. The whole week was divided well so that I could experience every part of the animal area and get a feel of how the Center works and cares for its animals! From getting their food ready, to cleaning the cages, to handling the mice breeding area, to feeding the animals, to engaging the animals in new stimulating activities, to assisting the vet in her surgeries and then a surprising bonus of getting to be a part of a documentary that was being filmed at the Center! The program also managed to neatly fit in a visit to the local school where i could interact with the kids and exchange information about our countries, learn and get a demo of their martial arts "pencat silat" and unique sport "Egrang. There was also a lovely dinner that was organised to give me a feel and indulge in the warm hospitality of the local Javanese community. The most touching moment was when one orangutan at the end my stay actually shared and nudged me to take a part of the special treat that was given to him! ❤️❤️.. actually gave me the warm fuzzies!! Can easily proclaim that this has been one of the most thrilling and refreshing moments of my life.. to be able to do all the stuff that I truly enjoy in a completely strange land but yet in a very safe and well organised environment. Had a really great time volunteering at the turtle project and yes I’ve miss the ocean of Perhentian island already! Being able to see the nesting of turtles was certainly an eye opened experience for me and releasing the hatchlings back to the sea is just amazing. I felt myself being a real part of the nature for contributing something. It was indeed a life worthy experience I’ll encourage my friends and family to join someday.
