Interns work 5 days a week for 6–8 hours per day, depending on whether it's fieldwork or lab work, as well as on a weekend if the weather is favorable.
Fieldwork: Gain first-hand experience in collecting data on free-ranging cetaceans and improve skills in marine surveys, together with researchers onboard dedicated vessels. Usually, a survey lasts from 5–8 hours, is weather-dependent, and requires the use of binoculars for the most part.
Office/lab work: Assist with transcribing and entering all the data collected on the field (on Excel forms), photo-ID analysis and matching, and QGIS analysis...

This project aims to understand what is behind the important change observed by fishermen, whale-watching companies, and yachtsmen: an increase in the common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) sightings in Western Liguria. The area is historically considered a less ideal habitat for these dolphins, which prefer sandy and shallow waters, thus encounters have always been sporadic.
