You will inspire a generation of local children to become passionate about wildlife conservation. Please note that the animals are unfortunately kept in captivity only because they are not able to return to the wild. Volunteering with us isn’t just about working. You’ll also learn about the local customs and beliefs, language, and traditional food. Our staff will teach you about the secrets of the Sepedi culture while cooking delicious food or dancing around a bonfire! Program Highlights
Get involved with animal care at a wildlife orphanage, where you’ll learn about trees, birds, animal tracks, mammals, and insects.
Teach children about taking care of their environment and protecting the animals.
Participate in our outreach campaigns by leading after-school programs known as Eco Club.
Visit villages and participate in our wildlife crime campaigns for young students from local schools.
Look for wildlife animals during the Kruger National Park excursion, and bask in the wonders of the Blyde River Canyon – the third largest canyon in the world!

The people here are all very friendly and welcoming. My 2 weeks at Daktari felt like I had known the staff for a lifetime. You get to know each member intimately through excursions and free time activities. Very hard to say goodbye.

The staff and volunteers I met are so so special and will hopefully be my friends for life! The animals are so well looked after and the way we show the children how to look after animals is so vital for their lives. The impact that we can make on the local children is astonishing and all of the children I had the privilege of teaching always loved their week at Daktari - I hope I have been able to help the mission of educating South Africa’s next generation!
