FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to all the most common questions about Costa Rica Volunteering.

Do I need previous conservation experience?

No. Our program welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds. You'll receive an orientation and work alongside experienced local conservation staff, who will guide you through each activity. What matters most is your willingness to learn, work as part of a team, and contribute to sea turtle conservation.

What will I do as a volunteer?

Depending on the season and conservation needs, you may participate in day and night beach patrols, nest monitoring and protection, data collection, beach cleanups, environmental education, and other activities that support long-term sea turtle conservation. Activities vary to match current project priorities.

What's included in the program fee?

Your program includes accommodation, three daily meals, orientation, local support, and participation in all scheduled conservation activities. This allows you to focus on the experience while our team takes care of the logistics.

Is it possible to see the sea turtles nesting?

Sea turtles are present throughout the year, and volunteers regularly participate in conservation activities. During the arribada season, there is an increased chance of witnessing the synchronized mass nesting of thousands of olive ridley sea turtles. Because this is a natural wildlife event, sightings can never be guaranteed.

What can I do during my free time?

On your days off, you can explore nearby attractions including the beaches and surf town of Nosara, waterfalls, wildlife refuges, yoga studios, and other natural highlights of Guanacaste. Our team is happy to recommend activities and help you make the most of your stay.
