Travel through centuries of Chinese art and culture in one of the most exciting cities in the world—Shanghai!

Art history is a way of understanding a culture through what people create, from paintings and temples to fashion, architecture, and public spaces. In Shanghai, you can trace centuries of Chinese art history all in one city, from ancient calligraphy, porcelain, and gardens to Art Deco buildings, contemporary museums, and futuristic skyscrapers. With an amazing cohort, you’ll learn how Chinese art and culture have changed over time and work on your own creative project.

Explore foundational concepts and techniques in Chinese art history while examining the influence of modern culture through hands-on workshops and excursions. In the end, your own portfolio of diverse artwork will show your growth as an artist.

There will also be plenty of time to experience Shanghai. You’ll dive deeper into Chinese culture through activities like a traditional Chinese opera workshop, where you can try on costumes, learn stylized movements, and explore this centuries-old art form, as well as a hands-on pottery workshop where you create your own ceramic piece. Your summer in Shanghai will help you build creative skills, discover new passions, and imagine future paths in art, history, or beyond.
