Oaxaca Spanish immersion

Practicing my Spanish while immersing myself in another culture prior to residency had long been a goal of mine, and CFHI helped make that happen. I really enjoyed both my language classes and homestay in Oaxaca and was able to take part in local art and cooking classes outside of the hospital as well. I'm grateful for the opportunity and would love to participate in a similar program with CFHI again.

It was such a great and rare opportunity to learn from various people around world so definitely I would recommend to my friends and juniors. It was a very insightful, eye opening and a rare experience of getting to learn about and from different people around the world. Firstly, the planetary health seminars was interesting and secondly, the community engagement seminars of Dr. Charles was so engaging and learnt lots of new things such as transactional sex. Thirdly, the global ethics seminars were very eye opening and need many things consider before seeking international grants, funding and humanitarian aid.

It is among those experiences that teaches not only clinical medicine but also things like planetary health and research ethics which we dont often learn in school. Planetary health came to light very well for me. It was an amazing experience. The clinical reasoning in low resource setting really interested me as it was extremely engaging, I participated, learn and enjoyed every bit of it.

I think it's a great platform to engage with people across the world and also learn enormous things within a month. So I would definitely recommend this programme to my friends or colleagues. Group case analysis during Global Health Ethics was the most interesting activity to get engaged in as it provided the opportunity to connect with other students as well.

I really enjoyed the various seminars and lectures. Even though the content was given virtually, I learned a lot from the lecturers and my peers. Meeting different people from many different countries was the highlight. I really enjoyed the reasoning without resources clinical case write ups because it really challenged me to push my clinical knowledge and think about how other countries run their healthcare system.

The best virtual internship

June 02, 2021by: Ibtesam-e-Fajar - - Pakistan

I, Ibtesam-E-Fajar, a final year medical student doing my MBBS from Pakistan, believe that joining CFHI internship program was the best decision for my career as well as for my self-reflection and personal development. Till today I had only seen what Pakistan as a developing country was suffering from, but CFHI, with the help of the best mentors and the best virtual internship gave me an informative world tour showing the struggles of different countries, I was introduced to new terminologies, new ideologies, new techniques, new information, new concepts, new methodologies, new people, different cultures that I had never explored before. My level of awareness, knowledge and concepts has increased so much that it will help me spread further awareness among people around me. I can't bring a change in the society unless I know what the actual problems are and what's the right and most ethical way to deal with them but now I feel confident as I developed understanding of the interplays between disease processes, poverty, social circumstances, culture, geopolitical realities, historical contexts, and the complexities of health and wellness, it makes me feel that, if I'm given the right opportunities and the right platform, I can now play my role in providing health equity and justice to everyone without any discrimination, not only will I focus on human health but equally on planetary health. I thank CFHI for polishing me into a better health professional and a better human. I look forward to working with you all in future as well by being your representative in Pakistan. I have already recommended it to numerous other people through my social media platforms and encouraged my seniors and juniors to myst enroll in thus program!

This was a great learning experience and really opens your eyes to the lifestyle, culture, and healthcare of other countries. It was an amazing experience throughout the virtual internship. It was great learning about how to reach a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms/ signs with low resources in developing countries. Planetary health is a novel term that I have learnt through the course and the Professor made the webinars very interesting and informative. I think the E-portfolio was the most challenging one for me, as I never made a portfolio before. Also, in-class case studies during ethics webinars and clinical reasoning were an interesting experience.

For me the whole opportunity was amazing because we don't have any global health electives at my university, so I learned a lot about global health, planetary health, global health ethics, low resource clinical reasoning, ... But my favorite part of the elective was the health systems comparatives sessions, I really enjoyed learning from other cultures. The elective make me grew a lot personally and professionally.

Informative virtual program

We need to scale up the engagement of allied health professionals probably by recruiting a clinical officer on your team because they understand the system better. I think the Plenary sessions were most interesting. The program as a whole was very informative.
