- Nepal: Sustainability and Conservation Challenge
Nepal: Sustainability and Conservation Challenge
Nepal is jaw-dropping. It is also in crisis. Air pollution around Kathmandu is rising fast, single-use plastics are widespread, and environmental awareness in communities is low. This is where you come in. Based in the Kathmandu Valley, surrounded by six UNESCO World Heritage Sites and just 30km from the capital, you will spend 2 to 4 weeks taking real climate action. Lead environmental workshops in local schools, plant trees to combat air pollution, and organise community clean-ups that inspire lasting change. This is a carbon-neutral programme, so the impact you are offsetting starts before you even land. Between project days, Nepal rewards you. Explore ancient temples, taste fresh momos, try traditional pottery, and, if you are up for it, extend your adventure with a five-day Poon Hill trek through the Annapurna ranges at 3,200m. All accommodation, weekday meals, in-country transport, and 24/7 support are included. If you care about the planet and want to see the world doing something about it, this is your challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does “carbon neutral program” mean?
The tree-planting activities you participate in are calculated to offset the carbon emissions generated by your travel to and from Nepal, so your adventure actively contributes to the cause you are there to support.
Do I need any environmental qualifications to participate?
Not at all. Whether you are studying science, arts, business, or anything in between, all you need is a passion for the environment and a readiness to get involved. Full training and support is provided.
What costs are not covered by the program fee?
Flights, travel insurance, vaccinations, weekend meals, and personal spending money are covered by you. Everything else, including accommodation, weekday meals, transport, and support, is taken care of.
Can you explain the Poon Hill extension?
An optional 5-day trek beginning in Pokhara, taking you through mountain villages and lush forests to the Poon Hill summit at 3,200m, with panoramic Annapurna sunrise views that genuinely have to be seen to be believed. All optional extensions can be discussed with teh Challenges Abroad team when booking.
Where will I be located during the program?
In a rural town in the Kathmandu Valley, approximately 30km from Kathmandu city. You will have easy access to World Heritage Sites, local markets, and everything Nepal has to offer on your days off.
