Program Overview

The leadership of tomorrow is facing many challenges. However, few of these have the scope and impact of global climate change and environmental degradation. Recent reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have given alarming information about global climate change driven by human activities. The adoption of the Paris Agreement confirms that the international community is ready to take action. Ambitious targets now need to be set and maintained by law to reduce our carbon footprint and increase the use of renewable energy. However, it remains to be seen whether international efforts can stave off the dangerous effects of climate change and preserve valuable ecosystems and biodiversity.

This program is designed for students whose goal is to work within the development of supranational environmental law, as policy and decision-makers in governments and businesses, for NGOs in the field of environmental law and sustainable development, as consultants, researchers and academics, or as corporate lawyers and barristers.

An Exhilarating Experience

Studying with other students from different regions of the world, I had the opportunity to learn about different cultures, histories, and institutions and often from different perspectives simultaneously. Not too stressful, the CES program offers a good balance between freedom, fun, and knowledge. CES staff introduce you well into the city, institution, and program in your first few days or first week, then really just let you take off and do your own thing. Of course, they are almost always available if needed. Studying abroad really pushed me to be more independent and take things into my own hands. I learned how to enjoy myself but also how to make the most of everything and take life "by the horns".
