Access to clean, safe water is becoming one of the most urgent environmental challenges of the 21st century. Recognizing its vital role in global conservation, development, public health, and economic stability, this two-week winter service-learning course in Ecuador explores the critical relationship between water resources and human health. Designed for students pursuing studies in Global Health, Biological Sciences, Public Health, or Pre-Med, the course offers hands-on, international experience with real-world water quality issues. Open to students from any U.S. university and accredited through the University of Wisconsin, the program provides a unique opportunity to engage with both scientific and community-based approaches. Participants will examine how land use practices impact water quality, participate in local water monitoring initiatives, and investigate the spread of waterborne diseases in rural communities, gaining valuable insights into the intersection of environmental science and public health.
