Dolphin & Marine Conservation in Zanzibar | Global Diploma
Program Overview
Spend 6 or 12 weeks in Zanzibar exploring the relationship between dolphins, marine conservation, tourism and coastal communities through a practical conservation internship based around Kizimkazi and the wider Menai Bay environment.
Following field training, you’ll support supervised dolphin monitoring, recording observations such as group size, behaviour, calves, boat activity and tourism encounters. Beyond the water, you’ll explore responsible dolphin tourism, marine litter and wider ocean conservation while supporting community engagement and ocean education initiatives with local schools and groups.
This isn’t a dolphin encounter program. You’ll explore the bigger conservation picture — how tourism, fishing, livelihoods, plastic pollution and human activity interact with Zanzibar’s marine environment — while learning from the people who depend on the ocean every day.
Your internship forms part of Boresha Global Academy, combining your placement with Global Citizenship learning, personal development, Swahili, cultural activities and an accredited Level 3 Global Citizenship Diploma. You’ll also work towards a collaborative Legacy Project designed around a genuine conservation need identified during your program.
And your experience extends far beyond placement. Live with your international Academy cohort in tropical Paje, just minutes from the Indian Ocean, with weekly island adventures, social activities and cultural experiences built in.
Your program also includes an unforgettable overland journey across mainland Tanzania, combining the Usambara Mountains, Arusha and safari, with international flights, accommodation, meals, placement fees, scheduled travel and in-country support included.
Come to Zanzibar to experience the ocean beyond the tourist perspective — learn, observe, contribute and have an incredible adventure along the way.
