FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to all the most common questions about Beyond Travels.
What makes Beyond Travels different?
Beyond Travels connects participants with local practitioners, Indigenous knowledge holders, and community initiatives for hands-on learning. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all experience, we personalize placements around participants’ interests and build from longstanding relationships with local partners. Through host-family immersion and practical fieldwork, participants gain a deeper understanding of local cultures and lived realities.
Do I need previous experience or Spanish skills to participate?
Our programs welcome participants with a range of backgrounds, from university students and recent graduates to career explorers and individuals seeking meaningful international experiences. The majority of programs welcome beginners in Spanish, offering opportunities to develop language skills through daily interactions with host families and local communities.
What will my typical day look like?
Daily activities depend on your placement, interests, and the needs of the local project. You might assist with regenerative farming, learn about traditional plant medicine, contribute to conservation initiatives, or support community health projects. Programs emphasize practical, field-based learning alongside local practitioners, with onsite support and regular check-ins. Excursions and enrichment activities may be included in your program.
How do I apply, and what happens before my program begins?
The process starts with an inquiry or brief online application. Our team will arrange a conversation to discuss your goals, answer questions, explore suitable placements and determine whether the program is a good fit. Once accepted, you’ll receive guidance on preparing for travel, and understanding what to expect at your destination. We’ll help you navigate pre-departure logistics so you can feel prepared before your experience begins.
Will I receive professional experience or academic credit?
Our programs can help you develop professional skills, explore career interests, and strengthen cross-cultural communication. You may work alongside local professionals, contribute to community-based projects, and learn about approaches to challenges in your field. Participants receive a certificate of completion, and academic credit may be possible through your home institution, subject to its requirements and approval.
How do Beyond Travels programs benefit local communities?
Our programs work with local practitioners, families, and community-based initiatives whose work supports local livelihoods, cultural knowledge, and environmental sustainability. Participants learn directly from people working in these fields while contributing to projects shaped by local priorities. Program fees also support the local partners and services that make these experiences possible.
