Travel to Oaxaca, Mexico, and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of one of Mexico's most charming southern states. Enjoy visits to ancient Zapotec ruins, participate in cooking and folk art workshops, venture to a unique nature preserve, experience the wildlife through a visit to a rescue center for jaguars, and spend a day with Fundación En Vía, a non-profit organization that works to empower women to support themselves and their families through entrepreneurship better.

This 7-day adventure presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience profound cultural immersion in one of Mexico’s most enchanting cities. Seven days with an all-inclusive price for transportation, lodging, excursions, language translators, and in-country guides. Three hours of transferable college credit are available.

Program Highlights

Take a guided visit to the archaeological site of Monte Albán, the capital of the ancient Zapotec civilization.
Attend rural cooking workshop by local women and learn to make a signature Oaxacan dish; visit Philately Museum, with beautiful courtyards and pools.
Visit Fundación En Vía, a non-profit organization that works to empower women to better support themselves and their families, and provides interest-free business loans for women.
Visit Teotitlán del Valle, a community known for its textiles and cultural traditions. Also, assist a traditional cook in creating a mural on the facade of her home as an advertisement.
Excursion to Hierve el Agua, a nature preserve with a set of natural travertine rock formations that resemble cascades of water. Also visit Mitla, an important archaeological site of Zapotec culture.

What is included in the price?

Prices include airfare, lodging, ground transportation, meals, activity fees, and language translators. The traveler can make interest-free monthly installment payments. Not included in the price are passports, any needed visas, and travel insurance.

What kind of food is offered?

All food destinations have varying options and fit a variety of dietary needs. Much of the cuisine is very similar to what you experience at home! However, it is always a great opportunity to experience local cuisine prepared locally.

Are scholarships available?

Participants can apply for a scholarship to help reduce the cost of the program.
