Program Overview

ARCHELON- the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece is a non-profit association established in 1983. Volunteers from all over the world join us in Greece every summer for the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats. Our main activities are sea turtle nest monitoring / protection, rescue and rehabilitation of sick/ injured turtles and raising public awareness for sea turtles and marine/coastal habitats. About 500 volunteers participate in ARCHELON's sea turtle conservation projects every year and many of them will come back for a second or third season with us.

Program Highlights

Monitor and protect sea turtle nests along Greece’s coastal nesting sites.

Assist in the care and recovery of injured or sick sea turtles at rehabilitation centers.

Participate in hands-on conservation activities supporting coastal and marine ecosystems.

Help educate locals and visitors about sea turtle protection and habitat preservation.

Work alongside volunteers from around the world in a long-established conservation program in Greece.

Are applications open year-round or on specific dates?

You can apply anytime of the year, making sure that your application is submitted from 1 to 12 months before your desired participation. Before applying, please read carefully all information for participating in our Projects in the BECOME A VOLUNTEER section of our website, which is updated around November, each year.

How can I choose the right project for me?

The choice of the project depends on your personal interests, your time availability and the ideal time of the year for your participation. All projects are described here. It is very important to take a look at the Volunteer Participation Fees Table as well.

Do you offer internship opportunities for students?

Yes, we do have posts for interns.

Is camping equipment provided, or should I bring my own gear?

For the beach projects we advise all volunteers to bring their own camping gear, because some projects are in isolated locations or near villages where shopping camping equipment is not an option. In case you wish to buy the necessary camping gear from the nearest town or city, you will need to organize it before your arrival to the project. ARCHELON will not offer/lend camping equipment to volunteers.
