As Scotland’s oldest university, established in the early part of the fifteenth century, St. Andrews boasts a proud heritage of excellence, demonstrated by its motto, “Ever to Excel;” its prestige as the most international of Scotland’s universities (with applicants from 169 countries); its reputation for exemplary teaching and research; its high post-graduation employment rate; and its continually positive level of student retention and satisfaction. The University is located in a picturesque coastal town, which is home to two beautiful beaches. The town of St. Andrews is also the historic birthplace of the 18-hole round game of golf, which was created at the Old Course in 1764 - a refinement of a Scottish game developed in the 15th century.
