Children and Women Volunteer Program in Uganda
Program Overview
Where does your passion lie? If it's advocating for children's and women's rights, volunteer abroad in Uganda! Education: This program was started to keep children from poor communities in school, and to train and support talents and skills. It has two schools that cater to 222 children, with aid and support from the organization. We seek volunteers from different professions who can work with these children to ensure they receive quality education. Girl Child Empowerment: This program aims to provide girls from local communities with the same opportunities that any young ladies worldwide have – especially the right to education, menstrual health, and social awareness. Most of them have been denied their right to education and even mistreated in their communities. Women's Livelihood: This program trains young mothers in business skills such as crafting, creating necklaces and bracelets, liquid soap making, and weaving African clothing. It currently works with 61 young mothers across the eastern region and has trained 2357 women in the past years. The program also includes family planning and healthy living sessions at our center in Masese.

How much do I have to pay per month?
The program fee per month is 110$ or 100€.
What is the minimum length of stay?
The minimum volunteer duration in Jinja is 2 weeks, while for our project in Luca (located on the countryside) is 3 weeks.
Is there a maximum length of stay?
No, volunteers stay for as long as they want. However, a tourist visa is only good for 90 days.
What is the accommodation like?
Volunteers stay in the ACF's director's house in Bwenda. The dormitory-style accommodation has one room with bunk beds, one with two single beds, and another with a double bed—with a total of 13 beds. Room assignment depends on gender and availability.
The house is surrounded by a garden, where two dogs and a few chickens stay. Thus, we don’t accept volunteers who are allergic to or afraid of dogs.
Does the homestay have Wi-Fi?
No. Everybody has to secure an Ugandan SIM card and mobile data plan. The country has 2 providers, MTN and Airtel. We're happy to assist with buying an Ugandan SIM card.
