Travel back to the time of castles and experience Scotland's truly magnificent beauty when you study with API abroad. Stirling is an ancient capital in the center of Scotland that offers students the opportunity to live in a university town, mid-way between the major centers of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Take classes at the University of Stirling, built within the walled Airthery Castle estate! You could also potentially study Scottish history, lore, and even the background behind witchcraft in Scotland. After classes, take a beautiful hike around the hills of Dumyat or take excursions to the West Highland Hills, one of the last pristine regions of Europe.

Program Highlights

Stay on a campus, which has its own loch and castle!

Enjoy an authentic Scottish university experience in Stirling—surrounded by green hills, friendly people, and history around every corner but still within proximity to Scotland’s two largest cities.

Choose from a full menu of performing arts, nightlife, and shopping combined with the community feel of a smaller city.

Walk out of your dorm and be on the foothills of Dumyat, a large hill with popular hiking trails and a gorgeous view from the top.

Explore the life and legacy of William Wallace, popularized by the movie Braveheart, at the Wallace Monument—the top of which offers a stunning 360-view of Stirling!

Studying abroad for a full year was an invaluable experience that allowed me to immerse myself in two distinct cultures and environments. This opportunity not only broadened by global perspective but also enriched my personal and academic growth in ways that I will carry with me throughout my life!

I absolutely loved this program at the University of Stirling! The University is gorgeous, with a loch in the middle of campus and the hills behind the schools. I loved feeling like I was in the middle of nowhere, and having the city center only a quick bus ride away and Edinburgh and Glasgow less than an hour away by train. The trips API arranged for us were amazing and we got to see so much of the country and learn about the history and culture of Scotland. I met so many wonderful people through this program, and had some of the best experiences of my life during my time in Scotland!

Amazing program! The program had scheduled excursions on weekends that allowed you to immerse yourself in the everyday culture. Also, by doing this program it allowed me to make friends before going to Scotland. It can be scary to go to another country by yourself, but API did an awesome job at helping this transition go as smoothly as possible so we(the group) would not get home sick. Also, this program allowed me to hear about other people experiences studying abroad. You are in the same place, but your experience will be completely different. It was nice to compare and contrast!
