Amazon Shelter

This wildlife rehabilitation and release center in Tambopata, Peru, has been rescuing animals affected by habitat loss, hunting, mining, and the illegal wildlife trade for over 20 years. Each rescued animal is carefully rehabilitated to return it to its natural habitat in the Amazon rainforest.

Led by Magali and her team, the center has successfully rehabilitated and released hundreds of animals back into the wild over the past 14 years. In addition to rescue efforts, the organization educates local communities, tourists, and students about the importance of wildlife conservation and protecting natural habitats.

Volunteers play a vital role in the center’s daily work, helping to feed and care for a wide range of animals, including howler monkeys, tapirs, and wild birds. By working closely with these animals, volunteers support their well-being and preparation for release. Volunteers can also participate in the education outreach program, helping to teach locals and visitors from around the world about wildlife conservation and sharing fascinating knowledge about the animals in the center’s care.
