Why choose AHHA Education Cambodia?

Our NGO, AHHA Education, empowers and inspires communities through holistic education. We offer English, IT, and Life Skills courses to disadvantaged youth in Cambodia. We also nurture their soft skills such as self-confidence, leadership, citizenship and social responsibility, providing them with opportunities to apply their learning in real-life situations. To help us raise funds for our schools, we have established an administrative arm called AHHA Group, which runs three accommodation facilities in Kampot: a Boutique Hotel, a Bungalow Park, and a Residence/Guesthouse. The profits from these businesses directly support our NGO's educational programs nationwide. This partnership between AHHA Education and AHHA Group allows us to combine high-quality hospitality services with meaningful social impact. By volunteering with either of our organizations, you will be selflessly contributing toward much-needed quality education and skills training for Cambodia’s systemically underprivileged youth. Internationally, since 2000, we have reached more than 200,000 students with our transformative education. We currently operate more than 50 schools across four countries in Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Japan and Timor-Leste) that serve 15,000 students every day. Our schools in Cambodia and our commercial arm in Kampot have a vibrant community of passionate volunteers who share a common vision of creating positive change.

Great experience with a great team!

This was a fantastic experience, the team was welcoming and accommodating and there was no pressure put on me! It's basic office work, but the hours are fair and give you plenty of time to explore Kampot. You also know that your work is going towards a fantastic cause. The living conditions are basic but cosy and the meals were reliable and delicious. I really reccomended this role, the NGO does incredibly important work and it's nice to contribute towards it whilst also being given the freedom to explore and have your own time! I'd reccomend this to anyone, but especially those looking to stay in Kampot for some time! Budget friendly, very fair work and free time balance as well as a really nice team to work with.

A Great Opportunity

I was a volunteer in April & May, 2024, at the school in Ou Chum, Ratanakiri province. The administration & arrangements through Peter in Phnom Penh were very helpful. The head teacher/manager Panha worked incredibly hard in both teaching and running the school. All the teachers were very competent, open to new ideas and easy to get along with. I also learned from them, English grammar for sure, as well as some teaching practices. The students were endearing, from the 4 year old to the teenagers. For me, the greatest reward was in working with the students, both 1 - on 1 and in teaching classes and seeing their learning & development.

A great learning and cultural experience

I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with AHHA Education as part of the office team. Being able to utilise business skills that I have acquired in my studies and apply it in a southeast Asian context has been a really unique experience and has definitely led to personal development. Not only have I developed personally and feel I have gained experience and had lots of fun, it has also been rewarding to be giving back to the people of Cambodia through my work and feel I am making a difference.

More than an internship

Spending ten weeks at AHHA Education in Cambodia has been one of the most meaningful and enriching experiences of my life. As a Communication intern, I had the opportunity to fully immerse myself in a nonprofit organization that is making a real difference in the lives of underprivileged youth. During my internship, I took on a variety of responsibilities, including social media management, recruitment, video production, and outreach to potential donors and universities. I especially enjoyed leading the recruitment process. It helped me gain confidence in my communication skills. What sets AHHA Education apart is its holistic approach to education and its welcoming, passionate team. I always felt very supported, trusted, and inspired. I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to contribute to AHHA’s mission and for all the kind people I met in AHHA. I left with new skills and lifelong memories.

A volunteer experience that filled my heart!

The best experience I have had by far!!! 🫶🏽 now I feel like I have a big family in Cambodia. From the very beginning, I was warmly welcomed and felt part of something bigger. I started volunteering in the province, teaching and helping with social media, and eventually moved to the main center in Phnom Penh. There, I supported video production, photography, graphic design, and ended my journey by painting my very first mural! an unforgettable moment for me! The students, trainees, and teachers are truly inspiring, and I also had the chance to meet an amazing group of international volunteers. We shared beautiful memories and had so much fun together. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live this experience. I will carry it in my heart forever. 🫀

I still miss TeamMore

From January to June 2024 I worked and lived at AHHA Phnom Penh. I wasn't part of a team, I became "Uncle Jessy" of the family. It's a cliché to say that but trust me on this one. From working to living to eating to praying to practising eye contact with the world's most beautiful ceremony - AHHA gave me everything. Volunteers only get accepted for 3+ weeks, creating a wave of great connections every month. GO HERE.

Awesome AHHA

I volunteered for 1 month at AHHA Education in Pnomh Penh. I worked in de admin office inside the school. My main responsibility was to build a network of sponsors so they could help out financially or projectwise or organizations that have future opportunities for the students. I also supporter the other volunteers with writing some project proposals. I learned a lot and met amazing volunteers, locals and students. The accommodation is basic but nothing a traveler can't handle 😉. The people are golden and besides the very helpful and valuable work there is definitely room for fun 😊.

Highly Recommended NGO in Cambodia

I have done a lot of volunteering projects since 2015, and I can safely argue that I know what a good organization is, and what makes a worthwhile volunteering experience. This group in Kampot, Cambodia certainly offered a unique blend of professional development, cultural immersion, and meaningful contribution to the local community. Volunteers have the opportunity to engage in a variety of roles tailored to their interests and skills—including housekeeping in a locally-run boutique hotel, teaching at an international school, and contributing to office work or digital marketing efforts. Each area presents its own rewarding challenges and the chance to make a positive impact. Thanks to Peter for facilitating this experience and for ensuring that the volunteers and the hosts meet their expectations. What truly sets this organization apart is its mission-driven approach. The NGO operates with integrity, empathy, and a deep commitment to community empowerment. The staff are incredibly welcoming, culturally sensitive, and take the time to make each volunteer feel respected, heard, and supported throughout their stay. the Director is an epitome of servant leadership and sets the example on how to treat volunteers. Daily interactions with the other volunteers feel more like collaboration than assignment. Beyond the work, the project encourages learning and exchange—whether it’s through shared meals, language practice, or short excursions to explore Cambodia’s rich heritage. I gained not only professional skills but also lifelong friendships and a broader perspective on global citizenship. This program is ideal for anyone seeking personal growth, cross-cultural connection, and a chance to be part of something bigger than themselves. I wholeheartedly recommend it to future volunteers and believe it will be a transformative experience. I plan to be back and work with them again soon.

An experience of a lifetime, to remember for a lifetime!

I had been teaching in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and when my contract expired I decided to take the opportunity to do volunteer work; something I had been wanting to do for decades (I am 60). After sifting through many options I got accepted at AHHA Education, an NGO in Kampot, Cambodia. The section of AHHA that I got recruited for is based in the town itself, whereas two other sections, including a school, are based outside, but close to, the town. So you will not be based in a remote rural area like some volunteer programs are. I worked in the Communications Department of the NGO where we focused on activities involved in raising much-needed funds to support the school program. My business and marketing skills were very much appreciated by AHHA and they were always happy to show their gratitude. The volunteering experience itself was very humbling and satisfying, and is something I would recommend everybody should do at least once in the lifetime. I'm really happy I did it. My advice to future travelers on this program? When you are putting in your hours you will find that time moves faster when you think of your efforts not as work that you have to do, but rather as service to others who really need your help. The rewards will also be greater with this attitude.
