One way they relax is by skiing; the Austrian Alps has more than 1700km of ski slopes. It's even possible to ski in summer! Between New Year's and Ash Wednesday, there are thousands of galas throughout the country. Famous Austrians include musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; artist Gustav Klimt; and actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger. AFS Austria has been hosting AFS Exchange Students for more than 56 years. AFS host family placements are located throughout Austria.
Program Highlights
Spend an academic year in Austria and improve your German language skills while living with a host family and attending a local high school in your host community.
Attend eight years of high school, like Austrian students, and experience the country's two types of high school: university preparatory or technical/vocational school.
Attend activities throughout the program, including parties or excursions to other cities or regions in Austria—all organized by the local AFS chapter.
Explore the beautiful architecture, history, and culture of Austria as it is a hub of the arts in Europe!
Go for leisurely strolls, join sports with friends, or ski with your host family all year round—Austrian people take pride in their beautiful landscapes and spend plenty of time outside!
