Become exposed to new family, friends, language, and culture during your time studying abroad in Latvia. In school, you’ll get the chance to make new friends and learn all about the ancient and unique culture of Latvia, which has always been a bridge between the East and West. This European country on the Baltic Sea is currently experiencing a cultural rebirth, making our program a highly exciting opportunity to be there.

Things to know
Russian influence in Latvia has always been very pronounced and there’s still a large Russian community, so you might have the opportunity to learn Russian as well as Latvian! Meat is an important part of the diet, so be prepared to find it in most meals. Riga, the capital of Latvia, used to be called ‘The Paris of the North,’ for its architecture and vibrant social life.

Program Highlights

Immerse yourself in Latvian culture and learn their unique language – you may have an opportunity to learn Russian as well!
Live with a host family and develop close relationships with them over hearty meals and plenty of quality time.
Experience Latvia’s vibrant social life and beautiful urban architecture in a large city, or spend time at your host family’s country cottage, which is a common weekend activity.
Attend school and meet Latvian teenagers – although education is very important, you’ll have many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and other electives.
Experience Latvia, known as a nation of singers—so you’ll likely encounter a lot of music and maybe even learn some folk dances!
