Doing volunteer in Ucesco.

Hello , My name is Kyoung ju KIM. From South Korea. I had a great time for 3 weeks through UCESCO. Doing volunteer with my daughter and son. We learned a lot from there. We did teaching and cooking for Peggy Lucas School which is located in Kibera slum. It's very safe. Ucesco staff managed everything well if we need something. It was really have a worth that doing volunteer there. Anyone who is afraid of apply, Don;t be afraid. Also, you will meet volunteers all of the world. it's amazing that I can do something for anyone else. It's possible to do volunteer work with teenagers, and it's possible for all volunteers to do what they can do. Three weeks was a really meaningful time in Kenya.

Exceeded my expectations

At 54, it was my first time volunteering and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. With UCESCO, everything was well taken care of. I lived in a building with other volunteers, who were btw just amazing!!! Bonding among volunteers was facilitated by shared meals, prepared by a very special local lady, who also supported us in many other ways. This allowed me to focus 100% on the project (teaching in high school). Most UCESCO people I worked with, used to or still live in the slums, so their involvement is selfless and truly comes from the heart. I have now witnessed firsthand how a small NGO works and can highly recommend volunteering with UCESCO. Their work addresses a major problem in Africa, and seeing this work from the ground was an amazing experience.

The most rewarding experience

I spent 3 weeks in Zambia and had the most amazing time. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. I absolutely loved being on project, the children were so enthusiastic about learning which made our job even more enjoyable. There is plenty of activities to do in the evenings and on weekends.

My experience in Zambia

I spent a month in Zambia and it was one of the best months of my life. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful if I ever had a problem. All the volunteers were lovely and program really felt like you were making an impact. All the activities on the weekend were also very well organised. I would definitely recommend to anyone who was thinking of doing it.

Great Volunteering With Awesome People

Did the teaching project in Zambia and from day one I felt that I had an immediate impact. It was amazing how driven and open the kids were. Even though I am fairly young (17), I felt as if I was able to find my role and actually lead classes. The people at the hostel and the managers were awesome to work with and made sure everything was safe and easy. I would certainly do this again if I had the chance.

Zambia time

The best experience I ever done all around. I didn’t know what to expect from this before leaving, but now I know I would redo it a hundred times. Highly recommended for all kind of human beings, nobody should be scared of taking such a decision.

Teaching in Livingstone

I had an incredible 2 weeks volunteering with African Impact in Zambia. The staff were brilliant - so helpful with every aspect of volunteer life and made it a fun, safe experience and I was able to make the most difference possible in 1 weeks. The children were amazing and opportunities to get involved with different projects were great. Girl Impact was my favourite part of volunteering - the girls were brilliant and it had a clear focus to support the girls with social issues and growing up. Barbs is wonderful and the girls have so much respect for her making it a great environment. I loved the teaching and sport, working with other volunteers and getting to know a range of cultures. We got to experience local foods, markets and live life in Livingstone. I got so much out of the 2 weeks thanks to the children, staff and other volunteers.

Teaching in Zambia

I had a great time on the teaching project itself, the staff were lovely at the school and the children were enthusiastic. However, living with many Italians who only spoke in Italian every day was tiresome as I was excluded from conversations at mealtimes etc.

Tauxe

This was an excellent experience in many ways. We had a relatively small group here as it was Ramadan, just three volunteers and together with the staff we made a closely cooperating and friendly group. Everything was well organized, the base was beautiful. The best part was the wonderful people of Zanzibar. So welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I loved the students, especially. The food was ok. The biggest problem for me was the heat.

Really beautiful but difficult experience

I am 19 years old and I spent the last two months in Zanzibar doing the Teaching and Community project. It has been really beautiful from the point of view of the experience because I feel like I learned a lot, I met a lot of great students and children and I discovered this beautiful island. At the same time I must tell that is not an easy or relaxing experience at all. The days are really tiring and at the end of the day we were all exhausted. During the day we never had some relaxing time or time to spend by ourselves : we worked from 9 o clock (we woke up at 7) to 4.30 every day. I really would suggest to put some time after or before lunch to relax a little because the heat is really strong and what we do every day is not easy at all. (I had to learn basically a completely new job by myself). The place of the accommodation is really beautiful and the food is good. However many times the power went off so we had to sleep without fans and that was really hard. In the last two weeks the power (and the wi-fi of course) went out something like 3 times per week. To conclude, this was a beautiful experience that I think helped me so much to grow as a girl and that I will remember for ever, but do not think to come here and to do an holiday!!

Insightful experience

I took part in the medical project providing home based care in villages and supporting clinics. Overall it's been an incredible experience getting a glimpse of how care is delivered in the community. From day one the staff create a friendly and supportive environment for volunteers to work and relax in. They've all gone the extra mile regularly staying on past their official finish times to run activities with volunteers. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in gaining insight into health, students or those qualified wanting exposure to something a little bit different whilst seeing the captivating sights of Zambia!

A great experience

Was on the medical project for 1 month. Loved it so much! Really felt like I was a big help for the communities and met so many nice people on my way. There are always something going on, so this is perfect for Those who are Very social! There are also plenty of stuff to do on the weekends, and Sibeso (the best) will help you with arranging everything. The food at the backpackers is soo good! Shoutout to Mulenga and Mutinta for being big supports in the staff team during the whole stay ❤️ If you Wanna volunteer, I really recommend African impact!

Unbelievable experience

I loved it. People there both staff and volunteers were so so genuine and really great people with a contagious passion about helping around the community. Easy going, relaxing but really fulfilling work. The locals are all welcoming, caring and super excited to learn both the language and about different background and cultures. Loved it, thanks!

Community Healthcare In Livingstone, Zambia

I really enjoyed this placement/volunteering opportunity. Despite the Cholera outbreak causing schools to close, we were still able to engage in many activities and make an impact in the community’s health and wellbeing. The ammenities at the hostel are great, and the overall environment of this workplace is so welcoming and enjoyable. would definitely recommend and would love to come back!!!
