Internship review
October 11, 2019by: gemmamairi - United KingdomProgram: Gender Equality Internship in ZambiaLiterally can't recommend this project enough!! I stayed for a month and I wish I was here so much longer. I thought the project would be working with girls only, but we also worked with a boys club and two women's group. The Girls Impact Project itself is so important and focuses on so many vital topics like GBV, HIV, self confidence, body confidence etc and I don't think they would really have a chance to learn about these important topics otherwise. Volunteer life outside of the project is also great, there are always activities planned and the volunteer house is within a hostel so there is a bar and a pool, as well as loads of places to chill out. The staff also couldn't be any friendlier!

July 19, 2019by: lakalakaboi - United StatesProgram: Gender Equality Internship in Zambia10/10 experience across the board. This is why I can't stop coming back! I loved it enough to have my family all join me back so they could experience it for themselves. They loved every moment and would love to come back with me again.
Girl Impact internship
April 08, 2019by: akperez - United StatesProgram: Gender Equality Internship in ZambiaLivingstone is an amazing city full of great people, this internship gave me the experience to get to know the community members on a personal level and form positive relationships. However, the internship program completely lacks organization and structure. It's hard to be an intern when you don't have access to basic office supplies such as a printer, stapler, scissors, internet. We were expected to plan events and fundraisers but were not given access to any funding. Everything was extra and out of pocket for us. Interning is just more expensive volunteering.
Dear Alex,

We are really sorry, but surprised, to hear that you were disappointed in your internship, as in both your mid-stay feedback session, and exit interview, you didn’t raise any issues with our team on the ground which would have been very useful for us. African Impact really values feedback from our volunteers and interns to ensure their journey is both a transformational experience and that they see the positive impact that they are having in the community. Our team has been trying to get in contact with you over the phone all week, but haven’t had any success. If you could spare ten minutes to have a chat with our management team in Livingstone ([email protected]) it would be much appreciated so that we can understand the experience better.

In regards to access to supplies, under no circumstances should you be paying for things from your own pocket. While our Livingstone team have explained that interns have access to the petty cash fund, as well as supplies that are stored safely in the manager’s office, we will definitely dig further into this and take your comments on board.

Finally, we really loved the blog post you recently sent to us about your time working at the Boy’s Club. The work you did on the curriculum for them is a great legacy to leave, and for that we thank you.
