Gender Equality Internship in Zambia

Literally can't recommend this project enough!! I stayed for a month and I wish I was here so much longer. I thought the project would be working with girls only, but we also worked with a boys club and two women's group. The Girls Impact Project itself is so important and focuses on so many vital topics like GBV, HIV, self confidence, body confidence etc and I don't think they would really have a chance to learn about these important topics otherwise. Volunteer life outside of the project is also great, there are always activities planned and the volunteer house is within a hostel so there is a bar and a pool, as well as loads of places to chill out. The staff also couldn't be any friendlier!

10/10 experience across the board. This is why I can't stop coming back! I loved it enough to have my family all join me back so they could experience it for themselves. They loved every moment and would love to come back with me again.

Livingstone is an amazing city full of great people, this internship gave me the experience to get to know the community members on a personal level and form positive relationships. However, the internship program completely lacks organization and structure. It's hard to be an intern when you don't have access to basic office supplies such as a printer, stapler, scissors, internet. We were expected to plan events and fundraisers but were not given access to any funding. Everything was extra and out of pocket for us. Interning is just more expensive volunteering.

During the month March 2019, I did the Gender Equality - Girl Empowerment internship in Livingstone, Zambia with African Impact. As I am writing this review, I wish I would have stayed longer. These four weeks were an amazing experience. You meet so many people both in the volunteer house as on project. Great vibes, good food, lovely people, cutest kids ever and amazing staff.

I had previously completed my internship, and I decided to come back just 2 months later to continue my work. I had just as great of an experience the second time around! I've furthered my fundraising, problem solving, marketing and teaching skills while here, all which I was interested in doing before I got here. I appreciate the work of the staff and how they are very focused in tailoring the internship into something that is most beneficial for you, and they teach you everything they can. I honestly would love to come back again for a third time!

My stay in Livingstone and time spent with African Impact has been life-changing. Everything, from the people I shared my days with, to the work opportunities I was granted while here, has far exceeded my every hope and expectation. Simply put, African Impact is an amazing organization. I am truly proud to have had this experience.

My stay has been very pleasant and I have nothing to mention, more so maybe the fact that it could be good to utilise a storage room for luggage due to overcrowding in the rooms during peak season. Also make sure that no external people enters the volunteer house.
