Hearing and speech science!

Going in, I wasn’t quite sure of what to expect for our placement because we were prefaced with several possibilities. However, our supervisor was extremely friendly, helpful, and set up our research in such a way that we were able to travel to new places to do research which allowed us to both work and experience Scotland to the fullest.

Incredible experience

This study abroad program is extremely organized and willing to work with you. I felt really safe throughout my trip and the location of our apartment was absolutely perfect. I could hike Arthur's seat but also visit New Town all within 10 minutes away from my apartment. The city itself is absolutely magical, and there is so much to do. I recommend going in the summer because Scotland weather is divine during June and July. The internship was great, I was able to work with a professor who was really conducive to my interests and passions. I would highly recommend this program. Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply for the Speech and Hearing Sciences Program?

This program is designed for students interested in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Communication Sciences, or related fields. While most participants are Speech and Hearing majors, motivated students from other health or education disciplines are also welcome to apply. Usually applicants have prior experience or education in this field to be placed.

How long is the program, and can I choose my start dates?

This program is only 5 weeks long during the summer. Our Scotland programs do not start on a rolling basis like the rest of our internships abroad programs because it is a very niche and exclusive international program.

Will I get academic credit for participating in the program?

Yes, many universities accept this program for academic credit, especially for observation hours required for Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology programs. Students should confirm credit transfer with their academic advisor before applying.

Will this program help me prepare for graduate school?

Yes, this program is an excellent way to strengthen graduate school applications. Observation and research abroad in Scotland demonstrates cultural competence, academic commitment, and hands-on exposure to Speech and Hearing sciences.

Is this a paid position, or only observational and research-based?

This is not a paid program. It is strictly for Speech and Hearing observation and research experience abroad, designed to enhance academic and professional development.
