Internships in Spain - Adelante Abroad

I truly had the experience of a lifetime with Adelante Abroad in Barcelona. Before arriving, they helped me feel prepared and ready. Someone picked me up and took my to my accommodation which was in a very central and safe location nearby to grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. The people at the Spanish school (Kingsbrook) were amazing and super helpful. It's a great place to make friends as soon as you arrive. At my internship itself I learned lots of new skills, worked with an amazing team in an incredible office and truly had an amazing experience. Barcelona is an amazing city and Adelante Abroad did a great job organizing everything. It was better than I could have imagined. 10/10 experience and cannot recommend enough.

I enjoyed my time in Barcelona very much. I was ecstatic to get there and start. When I first started it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. Nonetheless, I enjoyed every minute of it. I have made some dear friends. I can say I will be back in Barcelona. I would recommend Adelante. Without them, none of this would have been possible.

I had the best time of my life ! I loved every second of my internship and will forever have it as a memory in my head. If you are thinking about going abroad or choosing this program, just do it! It will be a something you will learn about yourself and grow from !

My experience with Adelante was definitely a good one. Not perfect, but good. The internship placement in the clinic was really awesome except that sometimes the director didn't want to listen to us and it lead to a few misunderstandings. But throughout the week when we were just working everything was awesome. Lots of hands on experience, lots of opportunities to learn new things. And the nurses and doctors there were so nice and really good at their jobs. I was continually impressed by them. I loved that our hours were monday-thursday as well because it gave us more time to travel and explore on the weekends. Our living quarters were pretty average. The bathroom was renovated, and the location was actually perfect, the neighborhood was super safe. Obviously it's not a USA luxury apartment but all things considered it was a good place to live. Usually if something broke or we had a problem they were able to help us out pretty quickly. The actual Adelante program itself was honestly much more independent than I expected, which was not a bad thing. They checked in every once in a while but honestly it felt like I was really living there by myself. Definitely a good way to gain experience adulting in another country haha. The only big complaint I would have with the program was communication. There were a number of details that weren't communicated to me at the beginning of the program like that I would have a specific uniform or little things like that. They would also often text us saying they were going to have someone come to the apartment for maintanence but only give us like a 30 minute warning and we were all at work. They got a little frustrated at that but honestly, we did to. We came to work, what can we say if we're not home at 11am. Anyway, besides the communication issues, it really was an amazing program. I learned and experienced sooooo much and I will never forget my time in Spain. If you're wondering whether or not it's worth it -- it is.

My internship in Spain was a phenomenal one. It was interesting for me because I was doing some deep thinking to see if Law was something that I wanted to pursue. I feel that by taking this internship I was able to see things more clearly with what I wanted to accomplish. I'm very thankful that Adelante helped me understand what I was looking for in a career.

I decided to come and live in Spain for 3 months, and it was the greatest decision! I lived in Madrid, the beautiful capital, but also got to experience other cities in Spain such as Segovia, Barcelona and Toledo. I definitely recommend coming to do an internship in Spain, it has been an unforgettable experience.

Studying in Barcelona was an amazing opportunity that I will forever be grateful for. The language school we attended, Kingsbrook, was amazing and I learned so much in my first two weeks there. Kingsbrook is also an amazing way to meet and make friends from all around the world. I did not have the best luck with my internship, it was pretty far away (close to an hour and a half one way), and I really did not learn anything, especially anything that would be beneficial to my career. Some of that is out of the program's control, but I do wish I was met with more understanding when expressing my concerns. The house we were originally placed in was also not clean, as advertised, but this was quickly taken care of and we were able to find new living arrangements. The experience is definitely what you make it and it's important to explore, make new friends and go out of your comfort zone. Adelante has great pricing for all that is included and a program that I would recommend, I just wish the communication was better.

I absolutely loved my experience living in Sevilla through the Adelante Abroad program. This is not your typical study abroad program in which they hold your hand throughout the entire process. You are expected to be completely independent and self-sufficient, and the contacts that you have in your city are simply there for any questions or support that you may need. I loved the structure of the Adelante program because it enabled me to really immerse myself in the city like a local rather than only learning about the surface level/touristy aspects of Sevilla. The only Americans that I interacted with in my 3 months were my roommates and of the friends I made were from all around the world. I don't know of another program where I would have had the opportunity to completely make my own experience. The simplicity of the program (in which they find you housing and internship placement and then leave you on your own) is also what makes this one of the most affordable abroad experiences. My university has a 5-week program in Sevilla that was 3 times the cost of Adelante and not half as immersive. That being said, if you are planning on doing an Adelante Internship you should be aware that the lack of structure in the program means you have to figure out everything on your own--food, travel logistics, budgeting, safety, socializing, etc. Your program is completely what you make of it, so make sure you are prepared to be pushed way out of your comfort zone. For me, this was the perfect program and if I could go back in time I would have done the exact same program over again.

I signed up to do a Journalism/Social Media and Marketing internship with Adelante Abroad in Barcelona. Unfortunately, I wasn't placed with a magazine which would have been preferable, however the language school I worked at gave me free lessons alongside my internship which was a huge bonus and definitely improved my Spanish. I also took on responsibilities alongside writing articles in marketing and administration which will be good for my CV. I was a bit late to apply, but it might have been nice to explore options for Journalism in Madrid and Sevilla as well during the application process. Accommodation was probably where the experience fell down. Don't expect to get the full package: a central location, other international students and a level of cleanliness. This isn't Adelante's fault, more the agent they work with and the pandemic that has reduced their pool of accommodation, but it is something you should bear in mind if you're used to living in "style". However, I made lots of great friends and lived in an amazing city for three months. It's a good place to start your journey, but I would have more to something more independent after the first couple of months if I was staying longer.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries around the world were shutting down teaching programs for health and safety reasons. Adelante was the only organization willing to send people abroad, safely. It was the best decision I made! The weather was great, social distancing and mask mandates were in place - at the same time I felt Spain had pretty much opened completely. I was placed in a wonderful organization with a wonderful manager. The environment was excellent, I felt comfortable and at home. The people I got to work with were incredible. Everyone was so welcoming, so kind and so helpful. Truly, I am in love with Spain and I would love to return next year. I highly recommend this program. The whole Adelante team was very helpful and on top of everything! Thanks so much for one of the best experiences of my life.

I was very eager to experience undertaking an internship in Seville, Spain. From the get go they were a dream to work with. They were informative and helpful, I ended up Skyping them a couple of times and they were able to find me an internship that really suited what I was looking for. Unfortunately however the coronavirus made my trip impossible. As soon as I saw the cancellations I was very stressed and felt defeated. However, the team at Adelante Abroad assured me that if I was not able to postpone I would receive my money back. I cannot thank them enough! They made an extremely stressful time easier and put the safety of interns first.

This summer I was in Madrid for my one-month internship, working at an English summer day camp for children aged 4-16. My experience in Madrid was a very positive one! In terms of accommodation, the apartment was nice and considering there were 6 people living there it was actually surprisingly spacious! I didn't get to meet a lot of my flatmates because we all had internships during the day, and other things to do so we didn't see each other that often (and I was also only there for one month), but the people I met were great and I'm planning to see them in the future! The apartment was also right in the centre, in Sol, so getting both to the Eureka Spanish Academy and work (and even the airport!) was very straightforward and the metro in Madrid works amazingly. Overall, the apartment gave me the freedom of my own room with the possibility of still socialising with others which is the perfect mix! The classes offered at Eureka were one of the highlights of my trip! The teachers were absolutely phenomenal and in such a short space of time, my Spanish improved significantly! The people attending the classes changed more or less every week, with new people arriving and others leaving from all across the globe. It was wonderful meeting all of those people and it was sad when we had to say our goodbyes. As for my internship, being there for one month, I only had the option to teach English, which isn't related to my future career plans per se but was none the less a magnificent experience! It was my first time ever interning, and I was also in a foreign country, but the company I worked with was fantastic! The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and by the end of the first week I had already gotten the hang of how the day camp was run. The children were adorable and they definitely put a smile on my face that I carried with me for the rest of the day! Though I was nervous at first, the final experience was 100% worth it! As for the city, well Madrid is just beautiful! It can't be expressed it words really, you simply have to try it out for yourself! If there is anything that could be improved it would be the one-month option of teaching English. It would have been better if I had gotten a chance to do something related to my future career choice but I understand that for just one month it is hard to find an internship, especially if, like in my case, I hadn't had any previous working experience. A paid-for taxi for the return flight would have been nice, as there is a paid for one on arrival, but the metro worked fine nonetheless. Lastly, the program is a bit on the expensive side, especially for an internship seeing as you're not getting paid, but for what the program offered I can understand that the money went to good use. It's just that a little cheaper would have been better.

My summer internship with Adelante in Barcelona was definitely one of the best experiences of my life! The Adelante team worked closely with me before, during, and even after my trip, and their communication is quick and thoughtful. I was nervous about working in Spanish all summer but the two weeks of classes at Kingsbrook Idiomas made me feel much more secure, and I left at the end of the summer feeling like I had gained in all areas of my Spanish language mastery. My social work internship was at a summer program for at-risk youth, and I absolutely loved everyone I worked with there. Living in Barcelona also made travel throughout Europe super easy - I visited seven countries in just ten weeks! This summer was amazing, and Adelante and its staff was definitely a huge part in making it happen. I can't thank them enough, and I would highly recommend the program!

I highly, highly recommend Adelante! They secure an intern placement for you after interviewing you over the phone, thoroughly go over all the details prior to arriving in Madrid, and make sure that you are having a good time over there. I often receive emails from the staff who are always checking in to see how you are doing-- usually I do not respond until a week later or so because I am just too busy enjoying my life in Madrid! Also, I recommend living in an apartment.. it's quite big and the location is right in the city center! I was a psychology intern for a very famous psychiatrist who has his own private clinic. The internship exceeded beyond my expectations! I got to observe sessions, and even had the opportunity to directly interact with patients. Sometimes I am actually left alone with them in a private room! I even got to grade assessments and look over the patients' documented stories... I have been learning so much during my time there, it's incredible. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are thinking about going into clinical psychology, specifically the practice side. The only downside is that you will be waiting around (sometimes for hours), because for certain cases the doctor and patient would prefer to be by themselves. Also, you will be listening to Spanish all day, which can be frustrating at first, but your listening improves so much over time. I know mine has! For those who are hesitant about interning in Spain because of the language barrier, I say just go for it! But you should be dedicated and truly disciplined about learning the language. Personally, I did not have prior Spanish knowledge (besides learning by myself for a month with Rosetta Stone!) before arriving in Madrid. The 2-week classes at the Spanish school definitely helped, and was such a wonderful experience. As for my social life/leisure time, I have been going to Meet-Ups, mainly to the language exchange ones to practice my Spanish (I recommend checking meetup.com if you don't know about it already) and traveling around on the weekends (mainly around Spain, but also to other countries!). Overall, the price for what I paid for this amazing experience was so worth it! Go with Adelante because of their insanely affordable price for what you get, the supportive staff, and the awesome opportunities!
