What inspired you to travel abroad?

What inspired me to go abroad, especially to Japan, was the chance to experience something completely new. I had never been there before and wanted to immerse myself in a culture so different from my own. Japan’s mix of tradition and modernity fascinated me.

I hoped to learn from its unique work culture and grow personally. Beyond work, I looked forward to discovering local food, festivals, and meeting new people—unforgettable experiences that inspire growth.

Why did you choose the Meiji Academy - Study Japanese in Fukuoka program?

When looking for internship programs abroad, I carefully compared options to find one that matched my academic and professional goals and offered a supportive environment. This program stood out because of its clear focus on practical experience and cultural learning.

I was also drawn to the beautiful location, which offered inspiring landscapes and cultural landmarks. Overall, it combined professional growth, cultural exchange, and a great living environment.

What was your favorite part about Fukuoka?

My favorite part about living in Fukuoka was the perfect mix of culture, nature, and daily life. The city’s food scene, from Hakata ramen to fresh sushi, was amazing and deeply connected to Japanese traditions.

Fukuoka’s coastal location offered beautiful seaside views and relaxation, while nearby mountains provided peaceful hiking opportunities. This unique blend made my stay truly special and unforgettable.

What made your experience abroad extraordinary?

What made my experience abroad extraordinary was the mix of unique cultural experiences, the people I met, and my personal growth. Highlights included wearing a traditional kimono and a samurai workshop organized by the company, which deepened my appreciation for Japanese culture.

The kindness of colleagues, locals, and other interns made me feel welcome. Living in Fukuoka, with its calm and beauty, created a truly unforgettable experience.

Visiting this beautiful shrine with a great friend made the moment special—a perfect mix of culture, friendship, and memories!

How did the local program staff support you throughout your program?

The local staff supported me throughout my stay and made my experience in Japan very positive. They were always approachable and helpful. They organized cultural events like kimono dressing, samurai experiences, tea ceremonies, and visits to historic sites, which deepened my understanding of Japan.

They also helped with daily life, giving advice on transportation, work communication, and local tips. Their care and support made me feel welcome and enriched my experience.

What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?

Looking back, I wish I had planned more time to explore new places and try more experiences outside my daily routine. While I enjoyed my internship, I sometimes got too caught up in the schedule and missed opportunities.

Fukuoka and its surroundings offer so much—from cities to nature and festivals. I also wish I had pushed myself more to try new foods and activities. These moments outside my comfort zone were the most rewarding.

Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.

A typical day abroad varied: some days I had three hours free in the morning, others in the afternoon. I used the time to explore the city or meet friends. After work, I loved spending my evenings by the sea—walking along the beach, enjoying the view, or just relaxing.

The flexible schedule allowed me to balance work with cultural experiences and personal moments by the ocean, which became my favorite part of the day.

What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?

During the week, I enjoyed exploring the city, going out to eat, or shopping in local stores. Fukuoka offered a lot of hidden spots and great food. On weekends, I often took short trips to nearby places like Dazaifu, Itoshima, or Beppu.

These trips were a great way to experience different sides of Japan—whether it was nature, temples, or hot springs.

What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?

I had my own private apartment with everything I needed—a small kitchen, bathroom, and washing machine. What I liked most was the amazing view from the 12th floor. The apartment was also very bright, which made it feel welcoming and comfortable.

It was the perfect space to relax after a day full of new experiences.

Would you recommend your program to others? Why?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this program to others. The organization was professional, the support from the local staff was excellent, and the cultural experiences were unforgettable. Everything was well-structured, and I always felt supported.

It’s a great opportunity to grow personally and professionally while discovering a new culture.

What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?

The biggest benefit of traveling abroad is the chance to experience completely new things—different cultures, languages, and ways of living. It helps you grow, become more open-minded, and gain a better understanding of the world.

You also build confidence, meet amazing people, and create memories that stay with you for life. Plus, you have a great time while learning so much along the way.

Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?

My time abroad has had a lasting impact on me. I’ve become much more open to new experiences and perspectives. Living in a different culture helped me grow personally, step out of my comfort zone, and become more independent.

It taught me to adapt quickly and appreciate different ways of life—something I carry with me every day.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

To me, meaningful travel means gaining new experiences and creating memories that stay with you for a lifetime. It’s about stepping out of your routine, trying new things, and learning from different cultures and people.

Meaningful travel isn’t just about sightseeing—it’s about moments that shape you and that you can look back on with joy and pride.
