What inspired you to go abroad?

I was inspired to go abroad to gain international exposure and hands-on experience in logistics and supply chain management. Working in a global setting allows me to learn diverse operational practices, adapt to different business cultures, and enhance my professional skills. I wanted to challenge myself with real-world projects, broaden my perspective, and build a strong international network to support my long-term career growth in the global supply chain industry.

Why did you choose your specific program?

I chose the Supply Chain and Logistics Internships with the Institute for Global Studies because of its strong reputation for providing hands-on international experience in logistics operations. The program offered real-world projects, exposure to global supply chains, and opportunities to apply my SAP ERP and WMS expertise in diverse business environments.

What was your favorite part of your host city?

My favorite part about my host city was experiencing a vibrant international community and a professional environment that blends modern infrastructure with rich cultural traditions. The city offered excellent networking opportunities, easy access to global logistics hubs, and a welcoming atmosphere that enhanced both my professional and personal growth.

What made your experience abroad extraordinary?

The experience was extraordinary because it combined practical learning with cultural immersion. I managed real supply chain projects, collaborated with international teams, and adapted to different business practices, which strengthened my problem-solving and leadership skills. Living abroad also broadened my perspective and challenged me to grow professionally and personally.

How did local staff support you throughout your program?

Local staff were incredibly supportive, providing guidance on daily tasks, helping me navigate cultural differences, and offering mentorship throughout my projects. They were responsive to questions, facilitated learning opportunities, and ensured I had access to all necessary resources, making my experience both seamless and enriching.

What's one thing you wish you had done differently during your time abroad?

I wish I had spent more time exploring local logistics companies and attending industry networking events to further deepen my understanding of global supply chain practices. While I gained significant professional experience, engaging more with the local business community would have expanded my network even further.

Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.

A typical day involved coordinating shipments, managing inventory, monitoring fleet performance, and liaising with suppliers and vendors. I spent time analyzing operational KPIs, using SAP ERP and WMS tools, and collaborating with international colleagues. Evenings included cultural exploration, networking events, and personal reflection on daily learnings.

What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?

During my free time, I explored local landmarks, experienced cultural events, and tried regional cuisine. I also networked with other interns and professionals, visited logistics hubs, and traveled to nearby cities to better understand international supply chain operations and local business practices.

What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?

I stayed in a shared apartment conveniently located near my workplace. I appreciated the modern amenities, safety, and accessibility to public transport. Living with other international interns also provided a supportive community, allowing us to share experiences, explore the city together, and learn about different cultures.

What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?

Future participants should know that this internship requires adaptability, curiosity, and proactive engagement. While the program provides excellent mentorship, guidance, and structured support, interns who take initiative, ask questions, seek out additional learning opportunities, and immerse themselves in both professional and cultural experiences will gain the maximum benefit and make the experience truly transformative.

Would you recommend your provider to others? Why?

Absolutely. I would highly recommend the Institute for Global Studies to others because it provides a structured, hands-on internship with strong mentorship and real-world logistics experience. Participants gain international exposure, develop critical professional skills, and build a global perspective in supply chain management. Those who actively engage with the program will leave with practical knowledge, cultural insights, and a network of international contacts that can greatly benefit their future careers.

What do you feel is the biggest benefit of traveling abroad?

The biggest benefit of traveling abroad is exposure to new cultures, professional practices, and global networks. It challenges you to adapt, learn, and grow in ways that are not possible in a familiar environment, fostering personal development, cross-cultural understanding, and enhanced career opportunities.

Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?

My time abroad has broadened my perspective, improved my problem-solving skills, and strengthened my professional expertise in logistics. It gave me confidence to handle complex global supply chain projects and inspired me to pursue further international opportunities, while also enriching my personal growth and cultural awareness.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

Meaningful travel is about learning from new environments, understanding diverse cultures, and applying those insights to personal and professional growth. It goes beyond sightseeing; it involves meaningful interactions, reflection, and experiences that shape your worldview and future opportunities.
