What inspired you to work for Smart Language Instituto?

The most interesting thing about the organization is that I feel comfortable when I work there. I can feel free to make any suggestion that I need to improve my classes.

I can bring all kinds of activities and games to the class also. It’s an incredibly open environment, and I have great relationships with my students.

Describe a typical day at work.

Most of the groups are in the afternoon. There are groups at 2 and 4 pm.

On Saturdays, there are not a lot of students in the morning between 8 am to 12 pm. So I can do different things in the mornings because I don't have many classes.

Between classes, they have a short break to eat something and just rest a little bit.

What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?

I think it is very important to keep in mind that students are willing to hear about our life experiences and some stories to make a connection with them. They want to learn in different ways, not just in class with topics and worksheets.

You have to be open-minded to be more than a teacher for them. The place is cool, so you will have grown and feel better than when you were a beginner.

Why should someone choose Smart Language Instituto over competitors?

Volunteering with us has an incredible chance to make connections with locals, immerse yourself in our culture, grasp some Spanish, and explore various regions across Colombia.

We prioritize a social and friendly atmosphere, ensuring your time here is not just memorable but also enriching. An experience that you won't forget.

Are there any developments with your organization that you would like to share with us?

Our organization is very special because it is the only one working with volunteers. We are starting this new project this year, and I think it will be an excellent connection for the students.

What is your organization's mission and how do you continue to work toward it?

Our mission is to provide quality English language instruction to all individuals who have chosen to work with us.

English is a form of communication that can further people's academic or professional pursuits and promote international and intercultural understanding for everyone in the workplace or situation.

I have been pursuing the mission with my energy to make new teachers feel like they are in a good place.

What do you hope participants take away from your programs?

I hope participants will gain a comprehensive understanding and apply them in practical scenarios.

" Skill Development: "I look forward to sharing all my skills in teaching, during this class with them. Also, participants will have the experience and the space to learn some Spanish and go out whenever they are not working.

Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?

Visiting new places, trying new foods, and experiencing different customs and traditions can help us gain a more profound appreciation for diversity and learn about other cultures.

These practices can lead to increased empathy, tolerance, and open-mindedness, which can benefit us both personally and professionally.

What qualities in program & host community relations are important to you? (And your organization?)

Community relations are critical for businesses as they can help build trust, credibility, and loyalty with the local community.

By establishing a positive reputation in the community, businesses can enhance their brand image, stand out from the competition, and ultimately increase their bottom line.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

Meaningful travel means an opportunity to see the world differently than you ever have before. To be able to reflect upon how far you've come to be standing where you are right now. Travel takes us out of our comfort zones and inspires us to see, taste, and try new things.

It constantly challenges us not only to adapt to and explore new surroundings but also to engage with different people, embrace adventures as they come, and share new and meaningful experiences with friends and loved ones.

My inspiration to work with the Transcaucasian Trail began when I first participated in its educational programs. At that time, I had the opportunity to experience the organization not only as a participant but also as someone who could closely observe the values and mission that guide its work.
