What inspired you to work for WEHAF?

My main motivation was to use my Business Degree to help people, especially women in vulnerable positions who do not get enough support. I value equal opportunities for everyone, and it is important to me to encourage women who do not get support from anyone else. I was very impressed by the work WEHAF has already done, and I thought I could support the organization, especially the Sustainable Business Programme, with my knowledge.

Volunteers

What advice would you give your pre-travel self?

Be flexible. Lots of things cannot be planned or do not happen according to plan when working with people in vulnerable positions. Adapt to the environment and do not always think you know what people in need want; instead, listen carefully to what they are telling you. Furthermore, be patient with the people you work with and yourself.

Meeting at the Mama Center

Why should someone choose WEHAF over competitors?

It is an organization that works with great motivation and heart. It really believes in it cause and puts a lot of effort into achieving its goals. The work ethic and empathy they show the people in need is very admirable. While working there, you are not only able to acquire new skills, but also be inspired by the work ethic.

What is your organization's mission, and how do you continue to work toward it?

To mobilize, motivate, and advocate for widows, children, and HIV/AIDS victims in the areas of health, social justice, and economic empowerment. With projects like the Sustainable Business Programe, vulnerable groups gain confidence to develop personally and professionally, and learn how to earn their own livelihood.

What do you hope participants take away from your programs?

Memorable Experience that will create lasting and enriching memories. It will teach both personal and professional skills. The unfamiliar environment will foster one's adaptability and independence. The close contact with other people will give a deeper understanding of different world views and teach empathy and sensitivity.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

It goes beyond sightseeing or ticking off popular destinations. It means engaging deeply with people, culture, and the environment of places I visit. It's about traveling with purpose, curiosity, and respect. It involves learning from others rather than observing them. It's about connection and a greater appreciation for the diversity of the world.
