What inspired you to pursue an online program?

I decided to pursue an online program because I wanted to get qualified as a TEFL teacher while also doing my degree program. I needed the flexibility of an online program and knew I would only be able to juggle one in-person classroom—college!

I wanted to become TEFL qualified during college as I wanted to start teaching right away after college.

Why did you choose The TEFL Institute?

Before choosing The TEFL Institute of Ireland, I was with another TEFL Course provider, but I was not that happy with the course I was doing with them.

I found The TEFL Institute of Ireland and gave them a call. I was very happy with the call; all my questions and worries were answered and I made the switch that day to them. I’m delighted now that I did because I had a very enjoyable experience with them.

What was your favorite part about the program?

My favorite part of the program was how well it was taught for an online program. It was so well laid out and organized. You never felt there was any information missing and that you needed to ask for any help filling in the gaps like you would in some classes. One of my modules was about teaching young learners and I really enjoyed that module.

What makes The TEFL Institute unique?

One aspect I think makes my program unique was how the course itself was presented. Besides having the typical course text I was also provided with educational podcasts and YouTube relevant to my module. This made learning a lot easier as it was taught in various different ways.

How did program staff support you throughout the program?

Through call and email. I contacted the staff several times through these platforms and every time I spoke to the staff, it was very informative. I know The TEFL Institute of Ireland now provides live tutor support sessions every week for students completing their level 5. Here they are able to ask all the questions they need answered and meet other students who are doing the Level 5. I feel this is a great support system.

What is one thing you wish you had done differently?

I wish I had scheduled my study time better for my course. I didn't set aside time each week for my course. This led me to having to get an extension for my course, making it take longer to obtain my certification.

What did you enjoy most about The TEFL Institute?

I really enjoyed how flexible it was. I also really enjoyed how the material was presented and how easy it was to study the course. Starting this program, I thought it would be very difficult to teach myself, but it turned into a very enjoyable experience.

What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?

It is possible to complete this course around other obligations, but you should first try to figure out where your free time is for studying the course. Once you have this set time, it will be easier to get into a routine of studying your TEFL Course every week and then you will get it completed within the time frame.

Now that you've finished up your online program, how has it impacted your life (i.e. career, education, etc.)?

Since finishing up my online program, it has not impacted my life just yet. I am still finishing up my Level 7 Course and will be done in May. I was hoping to go travelling and teaching after but with COVID, this may be unlikely. However, I feel when I can use my qualification it will positively impact my life and my career.

Would you recommend The TEFL Institute to others? Why?

I would 100% recommend The TEFL Institute of Ireland. The staff all have experience in TEFL and teaching abroad which makes it very easy to discuss stuff with them. You can discuss both your course and your plans after you finish the course with the staff. They will all have helpful advice based on whatever stage you are on in your TEFL journey.

I had actually never heard of the industry until 2016. I learned of the ESL world through my sister, who is one of our academic tutors and runs the 10 hour Virtual TEFL Course. She has been an ESL teacher for years! After I had arrived home from travel, it was Kate who introduced me to the compan...
