With Costa Rican host family
A picture of my Costa Rican family, my roommates from Texas, and my mama and papa Tica who were absolutely fantastic!

Why did you decide to study abroad?

I have wanted to study abroad my whole life so when the opportunity presented itself for me to be able to go, I took it.

Why did you choose your program?

I knew I wanted to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country because my minor is Spanish and I love the language but I was torn between Spain and Costa Rica. I chose Costa Rica after doing some research on the country and saw how beautiful the country is.

What makes the program you participated in so interesting?

Costa Rica was interesting to me because the country is so extremely luscious and full of beauty and exciting animals. It was amazing to see all the nature from volcanoes, to coffee plantations, to beaches.

What is the best thing about your program that future participants need to know?

The best thing about this program was how much Spanish I learned. I went there to learn Spanish and I came home feeling so comfortable with the language. We were forced to use it in class, at home, and around the city we lived in. I felt so submerged in the culture, never feeling completely lost or like a typical tourist, that was the best part.

What's one thing you would have done differently?

One thing I would have done differently was spend more time with my host family. I was so caught up in class, seeing the country, and making the most out of my trip. When I left, I could have spent a lot more time getting to know my host family.

Now that you're home, how has study abroad impacted your life?

I talk about Studying Abroad all the time, I really feel like I experienced another culture and learning another language gives me an upper-hand on a lot of things. I absolutely loved my experience and would do it again every summer if I could!
