What inspired you to work for the American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo)?
Upon learning about the establishment of AUB Mediterraneo in my hometown, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. From that moment onwards, it became clear that I wanted to be involved in this remarkable project.
The university's mission, its non-profit nature, and the valuable contributions it offers to the community deeply resonated with me. I wasted no time submitting my application to join the team, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in this historic endeavor.
Describe a typical day at work.
My day usually starts with checking emails and reviewing any new inquiries or applications from prospective students. I then prioritize my tasks for the day, which might include conducting informational sessions for potential applicants, meeting with students and their families to discuss program options and admissions requirements, or hosting campus tours to showcase our facilities and campus life.

Why do you do what you do?
I am genuinely passionate about education and empowering others to pursue their academic and professional goals. Being a part of the recruitment and admissions team at AUB Mediterraneo allows me to make a meaningful impact by helping students navigate the sometimes daunting process of choosing the right university and program for them.
Every day, I have the privilege of engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, each with their own unique aspirations and potential. I do what I do because I believe in the power of education to create positive change and I am honored to play a role in helping others realize their dreams and aspirations.
Knowing what you know now about traveling and learning about other cultures, what advice would you tell your pre-travel self?
Authenticity is key when engaging with different cultures. So I would advise you to embrace who you are while also being open to learning from others, approach every experience with enthusiasm and an open mind, recognize that there is always more to learn and that every culture has its own unique wisdom to offer, and try to understand the perspectives and experiences of others with empathy and compassion.

Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?
Traveling abroad promotes open-mindedness and appreciation for diversity. Experiencing different lifestyles can also spark creativity and personal growth. Moreover, it enhances communication skills and encourages global citizenship, fostering a more interconnected world.
What hopes do you have for the future of international education?
I hope that more people can easily access education from different countries, in the future. It helps bring cultures closer together and helps us understand each other better.
With better technology and new ways of teaching, I see more chances for people to learn from each other's cultures. And most importantly, I want everyone, no matter where they're from, to have the same chances for a good education and to experience other cultures.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?
Traveling abroad and experiencing new cultures is essential for personal growth, empathy, and understanding. By stepping outside I am exposed to different ways of life, beliefs, and traditions from diverse backgrounds.
This creates mutual respect, breaking down stereotypes and fostering a deeper appreciation for the richness of human diversity. Also, it provides opportunities for self-discovery and personal development. From a professional standpoint, experiencing new cultures can enhance communication skills, cultural competence, and global awareness, all of which are increasingly valuable in today's world.
