Program Overview

Intern at a hospital on the tropical island of Zanzibar. World Unite! can arrange medical, pre-medical, nursing, and therapy electives and internships. We can also find you volunteering opportunities at several facilities. Placements are available in departments across all typical specialties, such as internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, surgery, emergency room, dentistry, and physiotherapy. Healthcare and medical professionals, including physiotherapists, provide voluntary services at these facilities, where they can learn about their profession from another cultural background. Mnazi Mmoja Hospital is the main hospital in Zanzibar. It is located near the historic center of Stone Town. Elective placements and internships can be completed in pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, dental medicine, the intensive care unit, the HIV station, the leprosy station, neurology, radiology, ENT, ophthalmology, acupuncture, ambulance, and physiotherapy.
