Program Overview

Volunteer at a women's shelter in the Philippines and help promote female empowerment to some of the most disadvantaged and abused women in Filipino society.

In the Philippines, many women face issues like domestic abuse, trafficking, and abandonment. These experiences leave them feeling isolated and hopeless. The shelter provides safety and rehabilitative services to referred women. Volunteer for the Visayans works with the shelter to assign international volunteers to help the women develop a support system, strengthen their problem-solving and coping skills, and acquire livelihood skills.

By volunteering at the shelter, volunteers not only assist the shelter staff with day-to-day activities but also have the opportunity to conduct empowerment activities, such as livelihood development and skills training.

It is beneficial to the women for volunteers to pass on such skills as it promotes independence and female empowerment and eventually prepares them for a life back in society. VFV hopes to augment support to the women's shelter shortly by assisting in marketing its livelihood projects. However, it needs volunteers to help develop ideas and promote creativity at the shelter.
