USAC The Netherlands: The Hague - Undergraduate Courses

Stepping into a new culture can be daunting and yet exciting at the same time. When I first arrived to The Hague I was so excited to finally experience life in another country and culture, but I quickly realized how scary and difficult it can be to remove yourself from the familiar, the comfortable. To me, studying abroad is all about learning to expand your horizons and put yourself out there. It is the perfect opportunity to discover yourself in a new way and grow as a person. I was very nervous that I would go through this experience without making any real friends, but boy was I wrong. I made some of the closest friends I've ever had and now I have meaningful connections across Europe! I would be lying if I said there weren't some tears shed at the airport when I left. Thuas is such a good school in my opinion. The building itself is gorgeous, but the people are even better. It's a welcoming environment with classes taught by passionate instructors. I enjoyed all of my lecturers during my exchange. Also, the city itself has so much to offer. Exploring the beach, new cafes and parks are some of my favorite memories there. Another cute town super close is Delft, which I highly recommend. So fun to explore especially once spring and summer finally arrive. Amsterdam is also pretty close, and that city quickly became my favorite in the world these past several months. Dutch weather may be windy, but trust me the second the sun comes out everything seems to come to life around you, it's really a cool thing. I can't recommend The Hague enough, but in general I believe that doing a study abroad will benefit you no matter where you go!

I had such an amazing time in The Hague! I learned so much about the rich history of the city. I met so many wonderful people who helped me along the way. I attempted to learn Dutch, and was able to understand a decent amount by the time my program finished. I would love to visit again.

Studying in The Hague was one of the best experiences of my life. The university really made an effort to make us feel welcome, and the other exchange students were all very nice. It was amazing to meet so many people from so many cultures. The Hague is a beautiful city and I recommend it to anyone looking to study in The Netherlands! It is also very close to a few other countries which makes it easy to travel!

Studying in The Hague was a wonderful experience! I got to study at the university with other Dutch and international students and it was easy to adjust to life in the Netherlands. I highly recommend studying in this city!

The school facilitated an amazing introduction week, and classes were held with both home and exchange students. The workload wasn't so massive that it prevented us from experiencing the trip, but was challenging enough to inspire thought and attention toward the courses.

Living in The Hague on this exchange was a life changing experience. Throughout my 3.5 years of college, this was by far the most amazing semester and has since influenced many of my life decisions. This is a great program for someone who wants the independence of going abroad more so as an individual than as a part of a group. USAC was great in terms of answering any questions I had but didn't hold my hand throughout the process. The only issues would happen during exchange orientation but the host school (HHS) seemed a bit more disorganized than what the American exchange students were used to. Housing was great! I loved living in Waldo (Waldorpstraat 47 is the best building) since it was full of exchange students. My apartment was 4 people 1 bathroom. Everyone has their own individual bedroom and Ikea is one town over in Delft! The friends I made in my building are still people I've remained friends with 2+ years later! Being an American exchange student definitely gave me the leg up in terms of academics. All of the classes are in English. Everyone's required to take Dutch Culture & Society. This course required you to attend either class field trips or explore the country individually and write reports. Living in The Hague was an incredible experience. I was able to travel all around the Netherlands using the great train system. My bike became my best friend. Living 30 minutes from Schipol also makes it super easy to travel all around Europe. Stroopwafels are the best snack and living in the Netherlands on my USAC Exchange made me want to eventually move there and return to the Netherlands.

Den haag and the school here is totally amazing it costs a ton but is 100% what you think life here would be like. the school is legit and the professors are super amazing I like going to class here but its harder for sure then my school in the US. I love it here but USAC was pretty much useless the whole time and even took us in the wrong direction for housing. We had 3 different USAC contacts and never really knew who to ask our questions and trust me you will have a ton. When they did respond they kind of just said well that sucks and you still had to do it on your own. The international office here in den haag is not much better but hey you get super good at being independent. the social life is great and the people are great I just wish I got some help and didn't have to pay so much to do it all on my own.
