Study sustainability practices, resource management, and the effects of climate change in the stunning landscape around Chiang Mai, Thailand. Spend your days and nights surrounded by forests and fields, elephants, and agricultural landscapes, and learn alongside the local communities working to preserve Thailand's natural landscape. This study abroad program is open to university students in their sophomore, junior, or senior levels. Thailand has a vast geographical landscape, with water on three sides and mountains and plains scattered throughout. These geographical differences lead to periods of extreme weather, which creates unique sustainability challenges for the country. Program Highlights
Gain insights into the perspectives on social justice and sustainable development concepts through classroom experience and engagement with local communities.
Live in an apartment or rented room in an area close to your placement, and receive a weekly meal stipend.
Take 16 credits per semester (including 4 required courses), which is followed by a 6-week internship or research project.
Study at the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute—staffed by American, Thai, Karen, and Hmong instructors and support personnel who use a unique, team-based approach to teaching.
Visit various sites that may include local markets, development agencies, and areas of interest around Chiang Mai.
