MSID—Health in Senegal
Program Overview
Learn the differences between the American and Senegalese health system, as well as the unique health challenges Senegal faces. Get hands-on experience with a 6-week internship or research project, measuring the management and prevention of diseases, studying hygiene and community health, or rural vs. urban health care facilities.
Senegal has a complex history and largely diverse population. African, European, and Middle Eastern influences and religious differences contribute to its melting pot society. From a healthcare perspective, this creates unique policies and challenges to create a healthy country. In this program, you will live in Dakar, the capital city, where you will study these healthcare intricacies firsthand through classwork and field excursions. You will also participate in a 6-week internship or research project that allows you to study a specific area, such as rural and community health or development theories in Senegalese culture.
