Study the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship in Dakar, the metropolitan and cosmopolitan capital of Senegal. Deepen your understanding of Senegal's economic structure through a 6-week internship or research placement that will increase your knowledge of microfinance and social entrepreneurship and the role of Senegalese culture and history in these areas. Known as a melting pot of populations, Senegal is home to various ethnic groups and immigrants from Europe, Africa, and other parts of the world. These differing populations drive the economy and entrepreneurship efforts. In this program, you will learn directly from the Senegalese people and study the intricacies of entrepreneurship in the capital of Dakar.
Program Highlights
Gain insights into social justice and sustainable development concepts through classroom experience and engagement with local communities.
Visit various sites, which may include local markets, development organizations, and areas of interest in and around Dakar and the rural Toubacouta region.
Live with a homestay family in Senegal, with daily breakfast and dinner provided.
Take 16 credits for fall or spring semester, followed by a six-week internship or research project.
Take additional 4 credits for optional French language pre-session.
