Meet the marine megafauna of the Turks and Caicos Islands. In this specialized summer course, you’ll snorkel and dive alongside sharks, turtles, rays, and other marine life to study their ecology and behavior. Through in-water field lectures, video tracking exercises, and snorkel and dive sessions around the island of South Caicos, you’ll learn about these charismatic creatures, the environmental threats they face, and strategies for their conservation. SFS students live and study at the Center for Marine Resource Studies. The Center is a small converted hotel overlooking the crystalline waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Program Highlights
Swim, dive, or snorkel nearly every day – learn species identification and population assessment techniques while visiting coral reefs, sea grass beds, mangrove nurseries, and small uninhabited cays.
Get the chance to be a certified diver with PADI SCUBA Certifications available in this program.
Focus on diverse marine fauna of economic, cultural, touristic, and environmental importance –sharks and rays, land crabs, turtles, octopus and more.
Learn core skills, including coral health assessment, marine species identification, BRUVS surveys, underwater transects and quadrats, natural resource valuation, research design, and data collection.
Spend the summer with the ocean as your classroom.
