AVSE TESOL Course
August 10, 2014by: RichardProgram: AVSE-TESOL Government-Accredited Program in Vietnam
Before the TESOL course I had already been teaching for about 2 years so I didn't think that I would benefit too much from taking a TESOL course, but I'm glad that I did because I learned a great deal of new material and how to better organize a lesson (especially a 1.5 hour lesson - common in Vietnam). Now with the certificate I can just about work anywhere and for that I'm happy that I took the course. Peter and the staff at AVSE are wonderful people and made the entire experience a pleasant one, and my classmates throughout the course were great. Even before receiving my certificate (which I have now) I was placed at a school in a beach town immediately following the end of the course. Anyone considering obtaining an in-class TESOL certificate would not go wrong in choosing AVSE as the place to get it - they won't be disappointed.
TESOL in Vietnam – go for it!

In July of this year I completed the TESOL in Vietnam program in Ho Chi Minh City offered by the Teaching English Vietnam Company (TEV). The course is held at the Australia-Vietnam School of English (AVSE), which is a registered English language school with more than 400 Vietnamese students located in the northern suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City. My experience with the TESOL in Vietnam program at TEV was very positive. They offered to collect me from Tan Son Nhat International Airport when I first arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. They delivered on their commitment. They promised quality western standard accommodation within easy walking distance of the training center for the duration of the course. They delivered on their commitment. They promised a teaching job paid at market rates, when the course was over. While I chose not to take advantage of this offer because I had other plans from the outset, my 11 TESOL in Vietnam classmates - from all corners of the world - were placed in decent teaching jobs. Apart from delivering on commitments, other features of the TESOL in Vietnam program that appealed to me include the Australian Government accreditation, international recognition and most importantly, the course prepares you for work as an English language teacher. I’m now teaching in China and the skills I picked up during the TESOL in Vietnam program have been invaluable. If there is a downside to the TESOL in Vietnam course offered by TEV, it would have to be the amount of work you need to complete within the 4 week period. This is not a course for someone who is looking for a quickie TESOL or TEFL certificate. The program involves a time commitment of around 150 hours over 4 weeks including a minimum of 20 hours of hands-on classroom work at the Australia-Vietnam School of English (AVSE). There are theory and workshop classes Monday to Friday and writing tasks you need to submit for assessment. While there was a lot of work to get through during the TESOL in Vietnam program, the instructors and tutors at TEV were very patient and helpful. Moreover, resources were readily available given that the course was conducted in a real school environment at the Australia-Vietnam School of English (AVSE). Now that I’m working as a professional English teacher, I can see all the hard work during the TESOL in Vietnam program had a purpose. Would I recommend the TEV program to other people. Absolutely!

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to take the AICOL Certificate IV in TESOL program at AVSE. I feel that it was absolutely necessary to get going with my ESL career and completely relevant for the knowledge and skills that are needed for the teaching position. I also want to show my gratitude and impression with the great instructors. I loved teachers’ energy and expertise and appreciated how approachable and helpful they were. I am completely satisfied with this course. I would recommend it to anyone who is finding an accredited TESOL course with excellent quality.

I took the TESOL course back in September 2015 after meeting a beautiful Vietnamese girl online, and decided at the age of 18 to make the move over to Vietnam, a country I knew very little about at the time. The course taught me more than I could have expected from just a one month course and it was quite an enjoyable experience. I made new friends, tried new foods, and boy did I learn a lot.
