The SIT TESOL Certificate course at ILI Northampton was the best course I've ever taken. I took the course over a one-month long stretch in the summer and I can confidently say that I learned more in it than in any class I took in college or high school. Before attending I had minimal experience teaching English and would not have considered myself a confident teacher. After a month of study and real experience teaching language learners I came away feeling like I was not only confident in my teaching but ahead of my peers who have TEFL certifications. Not only do you learn how to teach English as a second language, but you learn theories on how to teach anything. You learn about the theory behind teaching and learning. The most important part was the experiential learning aspect where you'd be introduced to a topic or a theory and then immediately apply it in a lesson plan to teach real language learners. This program is dynamic and taught by a knowledgeable and caring staff. I can safely say it was the most valuable course I have ever taken!

I was prepared for the intensity of the workload. I was not prepared for how funny the class would be. With my instructor, six classmates and twelve students from all over the world, I laughed every day for a month. The classroom dynamic was one of the best I've ever experienced. And of course, I learned. I put together lesson plans, learned to ask questions that would garner insightful answers (or at least answers I could gain insight from), and saw firsthand how a new language is acquired. I taught classes, first with co-teachers and then alone. I was given the space to mess up. And ultimately, I gained a confidence I didn't think I possessed. All these things - the tangible skills, the intangible ones, and the thick binder full of course materials I packed into my already over-stuffed suitcase - have been my traveling companions here in Spain, where I now teach. But when I look back on that month I spent in New York with Selina and my classmates and students, what I remember most is how much we laughed. The course was perhaps a preview of what my life would be like once I started teaching English abroad: challenging, to be sure, but also unbelievably funny. In any case, it's one of the best classes I've ever taken and I would highly recommend it.
