Sustainable Development Micro-Internship in Costa Rica
Program Overview
Embark on a two-week internship that will educate and inspire you through an immersive itinerary filled with travel and learning opportunities. You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to explore the biodiversity of Costa Rica guided by experts in the context of sustainability and innovative business practices.
This program takes you on a fully facilitated journey through the field of development in Costa Rica’s central region. You’ll be introduced to a variety of concepts and theories and get the chance to see how these are applied in the real-world through a mix of business visits and adventure activities. Following a comprehensive daily itinerary, that includes your transport and meals, you’ll get to focus on immersing yourself in the professional and personal growth opportunities presented to you - with the backdrop of the gorgeous scenery of Costa Rica!
As a participant on this micro-internship you’ll be led in various learning modules including: discussions, lectures, workshops, seminars, excursions, and reflection sessions. These will help you gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of topics relevant to sustainable development and conservation in Costa Rica.

Do I need to be pursuing a degree to apply for this micro-internship?
This program is open to anyone with a passion for the environment and conservation! You should have a strong interest in sustainability and innovative business practices as this is the scope of the internships activities. This is an ideal opportunity for people aspiring careers in environmental management, government, NGOs, international development, and sustainable business.
Where will I stay during the program?
You’ll spend your time in Costa Rica at three different accommodations. The majority of your stay will be split between an international center and university campus in Turrialba and the forest of Tirimbina Nature Reserve. On international travel days, you’ll relax and re-energize at a hotel in San José.
What will I learn during this short term internship?
You’ll be guided by experts in the industry on a variety of workshops, discussions, field visits, seminars, and lectures to gain insight into topics such as: sustainable business models, innovation and sustainability in development, resource management, CSG programs, and ESG frameworks. Through theoretical and hands-on learning, you’ll also work on your communication skills, critical thinking, and teamwork - for personal and professional growth.
