Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know Spanish for this internship?
Whilst Spanish isn’t required for this internship, it is recommended. At least, if you don’t know the language, make an effort to learn a few phrases before arriving. Whilst it isn’t necessary for the program itself, it will help to build relationships with the communities you’ll be working with.
Can you offer any help learning Spanish?
Yes. Spanish classes for the duration of your stay are included in the pricing for your trip. However, it really will help your progression if you come to Ecuador with a solid foundation. So do start learning beforehand. For those interested, there’ll be Kichwa classes available during your internship too.
Is Shandia a safe area?
Largely, yes. Incidences of violent crimes and petty theft are rare. Nevertheless, interns are encouraged to exercise caution and implement safe travel practices: don’t carry large amounts of cash, don’t wear flashy jewelry and clothes, let people know where you’re going before trips into town, etc.
