FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to all the most common questions about Roots Interns.

Do I need a course or degree in music to join this internship?

Academic background isn’t necessary for this internship placement. However, you should be able to play a musical instrument and teach the basics of playing it. These are vital skills so you can help provide music lessons to children and adults in schools, communities, and churches.

Where is the Music Teaching Internship based?

The Music Teaching Internship is based in small communities, near the home base of the Living Music Foundation in Mbarara. This NGO aims to share its passion for music and spread the joy it brings to people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to music lessons or instruments.

Can I go on excursions after my internship hours?

Yes, you can! Activities in and around the area include gorilla trekking, visits to national parks and cultural sites, and seeing the long-horned Ankole cattle. Please note that the program fee doesn’t include excursions and activities.

What are my accommodation options apart from a homestay?

You can choose to stay in a hostel or apartment. Upgrading to accommodation in a guesthouse costs USD 480 per month. But we highly recommend staying with a local host family to truly experience the way of life and customs in Uganda.

When are the start dates for this Music Teaching Internship in Uganda?

Our partner organization offers internship placements throughout the year, with flexible start dates. You can stay in the program for 2, 3, or 4 months.
