Embark on an epic journey through the South Island, where you'll immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand for 24 weeks of adventuring. Based in Queenstown you'll dive into the heart of the action as you conquer vast landscapes, navigate native forests, and explore the Southern Alps. You will dial in your outdoor skills as you hike through rugged terrain, scale towering crags, and learn the technicalities of guiding from highly skilled program instructors. The program is broken up into two blocks—outdoor training and work experience. Throughout the outdoor training block, you will learn specific hiking, technical rock climbing, and outdoor group management skills. During the work experience block, you will work with a local adventure tourism company in a fully paid position, where you will put your skills to use in the industry. What locations will we visit?
The program is based in Queenstown, New Zealand. However, you will be visiting places across the South Island which may include:
- Wānaka
- Long Beach Dunedin
- Mt Aspiring National Park
- Aoraki Mt Cook National Park
- Routeburn Track / French Ridge Track / Rees/Dart Track and more!
How do I qualify for the program?
Participants should:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be fluent in English
- Be in moderate fitness
- Have a passion for travel and the outdoor industry
How fit do I need to be?
We strongly recommend you are comfortable hiking with a 15kg/30lb backpack for at least 6 hours. You should also be comfortable completing multi-day hiking trips and spending at least five days a week outdoors.
Where will I be working?
We are proud to partner with Global Adventure Tourism Company AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand. You are required to have a pre-employment interview with AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand, they will determine what role you will have and what your wage will be.
