Who is the Thailand Rock Leader Program for?

This program is for anyone seeking a progressive gap year opportunity. Combine technical skills, outdoor qualifications, and travel in Thailand. No prior outdoor experiences are required. However, please note that you will be outdoors 4 or 5 days per week learning rock climbing and general outdoor skills.

Students in this program are between 18 and 38 years old and typically from the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, and other countries!

What will I do each day?

Each day is different! However, a typical day involves breakfast at 8 am, walking/driving to the crag at 9 am, and a safety briefing, followed by climbing. Some days, you might learn belay techniques, rope skills, outdoor safety, anchor building, outdoor first aid, and other transferable skills. Your group returns to the accommodation at 4 pm to relax, explore, or enjoy adventures. Dinner is around 6:30 pm, winding down the rest of the evening.

Do I need experience to join this program in Thailand?

Not at all! The Thailand Rock Leader Program is open to anyone and everyone seeking a progressive gap year outdoors—wherein you spend time learning skills while traveling in an epic place with epic people and epic landscapes. You will spend 4-5 days in the outdoors each week, so we strongly suggest you at least like being outside!

What qualifications will I gain?

  • Pure Exploration Certificate of Rock Climbing
  • CWI - Climbing Wall Instructor (internationally recognized)
  • SPI - Single Pitch Instructor (AMGA standard)
  • Adapted climbing for people with physical disabilities - Training and Client Experience
  • WAFA - Wilderness Advanced First Aid

What skills will I gain?

  • Anchor building, belaying, rope management, and abseiling techniques
  • Essential climbing techniques for different rock types, navigation of climbing routes, and effective risk assessment
