What a Baeutiful Country To Volunteer In? Uganda

by: Keetha Hasini - CanadaProgram: Join Us as a Global Ambassador or Volunteer

Uganda is a beautiful country with friendly people and plenty to explore. Visitors can enjoy so many beautiful sceneries and a range of cultural experiences. The locals are always welcoming and eager to share their traditions. Uganda offers a wealth of adventure and exploration opportunities for tourists seeking a unique experience! It was a nice moment at PLANE, interactive with the local loving population and touring the amazing scenery. The weeks days were busy ones in the field and the weekends were spent touring the Queen Elizabeth National park, Kibaale National Park, Ssemuliki and the slpoes of Mountains. What a beautiful country? PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE) is a non-governmental organization that operates in the Kabarole district and Fort Portal Tourism City, Rwenzori region. They work tirelessly to protect the rights of children and women in the area. Their mission is to empower vulnerable populations and provide them with the tools and resources they need to thrive. Through their advocacy and the support from the many members of the nonprofit, PLANE is making a real difference in the lives of people in the community. Currently, the organization is running multiple projects in Uganda to address some of the most pressing issues faced by the country's vulnerable populations. One of the projects is the Advocacy for Sexual Gender-Based Violence (ASGBV) Project, which aims to create awareness about the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence in Uganda and eradicate it. Another important endeavour is the Orphans Education Sponsorship Project (OESP), which provides financial support to children to ensure they have access to quality education. Initiatives like these are crucial in bringing about positive changes in the lives of those affected by violence, poverty, and lack of education. However, the organization needs support from individuals like you to continue their efforts and make a real difference in Uganda. Your contribution, no matter how small, can go a long way in helping the most vulnerable members of society.

My experience as a PLANE Volunteer

Volunteering for PLANE has been nothing short of enriching. As both a web developer and a public health coordinator, I had the opportunity to create a website for USA outreach and a research paper that was distributed to Ugandan secondary high schools. It's fulfilling to know that I am both practicing my love for teaching and benefiting a noble cause simultaneously. I’ve learned so much from an organization built on benefiting the needy, from spreading sexual awareness to working against malaria. Even though I never got an opportunity to visit Uganda myself, it always brings a sense of joy as I look over the individual stories of direct beneficiaries. Across the world, I resonate with the message that PLANE is committed to, of helping those who are unfortunate—by any means necessary—whether it is educational material or media drama. As I pursue my own career in medicine, I find the importance of helping the health infrastructure of a community compelling, and I applaud the work that the organization has done, as I try my best to help champion the importance of sexual education myself, even in the research paper that I created. It has truly been an honor to take part in such a gratifying movement.

I've been volunteering for PLANE for a little over a year now, and it's been wonderful! I always enjoyed educating people, and this was the perfect opportunity. I've had the opportunity to be in Uganda helping out children with mathematics and science. It has truly been a joy to be here. Furthermore, I also assisted in fundraising money to help out in the purchase of school supplies. The people are very kind, there is an abundance of beautiful scenery and wildlife, and the food is delicious! It is extremely fulfilling for me to be here, exercising all of my knowledge to help children who didn't have access to the same resources as me. PLANE as a whole is a fantastic organization that truly has positive goals and treats its volunteers with the respect they deserve. I am hoping to do even more and expand my horizons with this magnificent group of people!
